What is Olaplex, hailed as the “hair savior” and used during hair dyeing?

You may not be unfamiliar with the name Olaplex if you have ever bleached or dyed your hair, but if you were asked what it is and what it does for your hair, most likely eight or nine out of ten would not be able to answer. How can you not know more about a product used on your hair! Keep scrolling to learn more about Olaplex, hailed as the “hair savior”!

Olaplex was co-invented by Dr. Eric Pressly, a materials scientist, and Dr. Craig Hawker, a chemist. It is the first invention in the hair care industry, containing a single active ingredient without silicones, sulfates, phthalates, aldehydes, DEA, and other chemicals. Most importantly, it does not conduct animal testing. Why is Olaplex widely used and loved by the industry? The reason is that it is truly a miraculous remedy for damaged hair! During processes like dyeing, bleaching, and perming, hair strands can break due to chemical damage, heat, and mechanical stress. This is where Olaplex comes in, repairing the disulfide bonds in the hair, restoring its structure, strength, elasticity, and overall health. Therefore, Olaplex can be used not only during chemical treatments but also in daily hair care.

The entire Olaplex treatment process is divided into 7 steps, with No.1 and No.2 usually only used in salons. The former is mixed with bleach or dye to strengthen disulfide bonds to prevent breakage, while the latter, like a deep conditioning hair mask, is used after rinsing off the dye to reconnect and strengthen broken disulfide bonds, also adding protein to the hair.

As for Olaplex No.3 to No.7, they are for home use. No.3 can be considered as the at-home version of No.2, and can be used once a week. Apply 1 to 3 teaspoons on damp hair and leave it on for at least 10 minutes for deep nourishment. Olaplex No.4 can replace regular shampoo, with coconut oil to moisturize hair without fading color. No.5 can be used as a conditioner, leaving it on hair for 3 minutes before rinsing to ensure repair, strengthen, and moisturize effects. If your hair is severely damaged, you can use No.6 leave-in styling cream and No.7 hair oil. The former combines vitamin E and coconut oil to reduce frizz, while the latter is a plant-based oil to make hair more shiny.
