Maria Hassabi「我會是你的鏡子」

“Maria Hassabi: I Will Be Your Mirror” is the first solo exhibition in Asia by artist and choreographer Maria Hassabi. It combines performance, sound, photography, and painting to bring innovative art, while also showcasing her new commissioned work created specifically for the unique architectural environment of Tai Kwun.

Gold has endless meanings in myths from ancient times to the present, both as a sacred color and a symbol of capitalism. It is even a representation of vulgarity in popular culture. This exhibition mainly revolves around how images are produced and disseminated in golden mirrors. Gold is both stable and ever-changing in our concept, and this paradoxical tension is reflected in Hassabi’s work, which exists between subject and object, dance and sculpture, living beings and still images, spectacle and everyday life.

Among them, Gabriele Beveridge’s hand-blown glass work “Distant Peak” is placed lightly on a small base, resembling a suspended body in mid-air. The cool blue and red colors shimmer and shine under the refraction of light. Shilpa Gupta’s digital print and crystal-mounted work “Half a Sky” challenges the boundaries of existence on a physical and ideological level by imagining and simultaneously gazing at two skies. It is also worth mentioning Tsai Yunhua’s “Dunhuang Skull (Poker)”, a delicate and intricate collage that presents scenes from the Dunhuang Grottoes while incorporating Buddhist symbols and imagery, forming a playful skull head on a deck of cards.

    Eric So《在山上看着大海對岸的妳》

Eric So, who transitioned from an advertising person to an artist and cross-media creator, possesses realistic sculpting skills and a highly distinctive cartoon design style, blending and integrating these two extremes in his works.

    Eric So《在山上看着大海對岸的妳》

In the exhibition “Watching You Across the Sea from the Mountains,” Eric uses clay as a medium to create unique ceramic artworks. With a minimalist design that conveys a lot with few elements and a layout that is free and expressive, he creates a garden of the mind.

In addition, he also uses objects to convey meaning, projecting the coexistence of mountains and seas as a symbol of the genuine emotional interaction between “you,” “me,” and “him.” This depicts and expresses the essence of things, thereby triggering viewers to reflect on themselves.
