Art originates from life, and with careful observation, it is not difficult to discover the traces of art everywhere in the Tsuen Wan district these days. The new edition of the creative tourism project “#ddHK Design #Hong Kong Land” organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board brings attention-grabbing large-scale art installations to various public spaces in Tsuen Wan under the theme of “Artful Journey Unfinished・Tsuen Wan”.
“The ‘Art Journey Unfinished: Tsuen Wan’ event is curated by Way of Difference, and features a limited-time large-scale art installation designed by seven internationally and locally renowned creative units. These include the creative art duo Craig & Karl (USA and UK), painter and illustrator Andy Rementer (USA), textile designer Masaru Suzuki (Japan), as well as Hong Kong-based painter and sculptor Kila Cheung, graphic designer Katol Lo, installation design unit KaCaMa Design Lab, and eco-art creation unit Blue and White Studio.”
Seven art installations are placed in different public spaces, each with its own creativity and characteristics, outlining the unique charm of Tsuen Wan. Craig & Karl transformed Sai Lau Kok Garden into a colorful and dreamlike landscape art installation called “Rainbow Prism,” refreshing the originally minimalist garden. Andy Rementer created “Ocean Soul Mate” with the theme of the ocean, adding a 15-meter-long giant whale to Tsuen Wan Park that occasionally sprays water through blowholes.

Masaru Suzuki’s “Scenery Weaving” decorates the pedestrian bridge of Tsuen Wan Grand River with colorful fabrics, while the pedestrian bridge of Tai Chung Road features Katol Lo’s “Silver Age,” which transforms the bridge into a time tunnel filled with artistic elements such as typography and street art, showcasing the rich cultural history and traditions of Tsuen Wan.
The “Tsuen Wan Mountain and Water” series, located in Sea Sheng Garden, consists of three large-scale murals: “Misty Mountain,” “Rain Creek,” and “Bright River.” The paintings are computer-generated and incorporate traditional Chinese painting characteristics, presenting the natural scenery and diverse species of Hong Kong’s highest peak, Tai Mo Shan, from far to near. In the vicinity of the New Territories cycling network, at the Tsuen Wan waterfront, you can find KaCaMa Design Lab’s “Rocking and Gathering Station.” While riding a bicycle, you can enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery. When the bicycle-activated device is activated, colorful balloons will inflate and float in the air. Finally, at the Tsuen Wan Town Hall Plaza, there is Kila Cheung’s “Returning Home” installation, consisting of the prominent sculpture “Home No.9 – Taste of The Lost Memory Home” and the surrounding “Little Light People” installation “Twinkle Twinkle Little Square.” It becomes the most heartwarming and healing scenery for everyone on their way home every day.
