American artist Dan Oliver depicts the exploration of nature, his abstract landscape works are filled with a sense of rural romance!

Hong Kong JPS Gallery presents the latest solo exhibition “Our Nature” by American artist Dan Oliver, showcasing Oliver’s active exploration of nature. “Our Nature” interprets a world full of beauty and crisis, reminding viewers that we are also a part of nature, and any changes to nature will ultimately have consequences for us. Through this exhibition, the artist raises awareness about the current climate crisis and reminds us of our close relationship with nature.

Living in this ever-changing era, this exhibition gives you a chance to catch your breath. Oliver makes us reflect on everything that humans do through nature, memories, and ordinary things. In his works, the same objects are presented in different tenses, just like the tree in front of the houses in the American town, juxtaposing withered climbing vines and undamaged landscapes, achieving a brilliant effect.

Oliver filters his dreams and memories with a minimalist style, inviting viewers to pause, observe, and reflect on their meaning, allowing nature to become a poetic element in dialogue with the soul. Oliver says, “In the world of dreams, nature speaks its thoughts through its landscapes. In dreams, nature tells us that this is how it is.”

Oliver’s creations are carefully crafted with deep thought. In the process of creation, he starts by sketching conceptual drawings, aiming for perfection. In order to help the audience better understand his creative process and the different aesthetics presented by various mediums, in addition to canvas paintings, a series of paper works will also be exhibited.

“The Lake” is a new interpretation of an early work. In what appears to be a calm scene, a broken branch of a dead tree is present. The broken tree branch prompts us to reflect on human violence towards nature and to confront the irreparable consequences. Life is impermanent, and this artwork not only reminds us of the threat of climate crisis but also reminds us that life is short and unpredictable. Whether individual desires or maintaining peace in nature is more important, everyone has their own interpretation. Oliver hopes that through this exhibition, it will inspire us to pause, reflect, and find answers.
