On a hot summer day, if you don’t feel like being out in the heat, visiting an art gallery is also a nice option! Tang Contemporary Art Center will soon present a solo exhibition by Thai artist Kitti Narod titled “Summer Breeze,” where the artist uses bright colors to capture life in the season, allowing viewers to feel the vibrant summer atmosphere indoors.
The artist’s work is like portrait photography, including two couples, four friends posing, letting the gentle summer breeze blow their hair; a man and a woman spontaneously dancing tango steps in the laundry room; two men leaning on each other napping on the couch; a group of galloping horses evoking the bodies in the pool, the scene of people working out hard in the gym, and so on.
Kitti was born in 1976 in Thailand and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Literature in Bangkok. He began to develop a unique artistic dimension, creating an image symbol language that simplifies his style to reach the pure essence of each image. He skillfully balances between abstraction and the real world, revealing the artist’s journey: a quest to transcend personal boundaries, no longer centered on the self, but symbolizing the narrative of every potential life.
The visual power of an artist’s work lies in those straightforward and simple depictions, namely the two-dimensional portraits of people or animals presented in curves. The combination of realism and stylization showcases the artist’s personality, with his relaxed drawing language stemming from research and the refinement of images, elevated into his unique “concepts” and “symbols.”
As an interpreter of diverse gender identities, the artist conveys a message beyond the visual in works such as “Sofa” or “Challenge” in a purely natural way. His depictions are not sensational, all scenes are paired with an equal love, whether it is for people, animals, or life. On his canvas, even highly stylized still lifes become a sensual element.
Kitti’s work is attractive not only because of its rich composition, but also because every small detail of the characters in the painting makes us feel the creator’s passion for life. This summer, why not get some vitality from this exhibition!
