Looking at the paintings of Chinese artist Jing Zhiyong, the sense of loneliness emanating from the vast spaces or regions unconsciously brings to mind the classic works of American painter Edward Hopper (1882–1967). Hopper painted some of the most enduring popular images in American art history, depicting a sense of isolation and uncertainty about the city that touches the heart of every urbanite, a sentiment that is also subtly reflected in Jing Zhiyong’s works.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China Guardian (Hong Kong), the Asian 20th Century and Contemporary Art Department of the auction house will present the “Blossoming in Silence: Works by Jing Zhiyong Collection Exhibition” in July, showcasing 50 pieces of Jing Zhiyong’s works from 2018 to the present, marking the artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.
Jing Zhiyong is one of the most prominent contemporary Chinese artists in recent years. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 2005 and has been publishing and creating works on his personal social media platform since 2018. With a calm brushstroke and a dark sense of humor, he creates works that respond to the current social situation. Using a cinematic plot and dramatic composition, he portrays subtle observations of the city, captivating viewers with engaging images and showcasing deep emotional tension.
The exhibition will showcase the artist’s classic “Space,” “Film,” and “Tribute to Edward Hopper” series. In addition, China Guardian (Hong Kong) has collaborated with the artist to release a limited edition of 100 prints of “Goodbye,” personally signed by the artist, for collectors. The work is inspired by the highly acclaimed “Christmas” series by Jing Zhiyong, featuring “Goodbye 2021.”
Rising in the global art market, the work must have its charm, everyone may wish to visit the exhibition and personally appreciate the unique works of Jing Zhiyong.
