Conceptual artist Cerith Wyn Evans showcases his latest neon light installation at White Cube!

Conceptual artist Cerith Wyn Evans, who lives and works in the UK, is known for his neon light installations. He excels in creating works using neon lights, photography, collages, sound installations, and other methods, establishing a series of iconic installations through the possibilities generated by different media. His work is characterized by a minimalist yet complex style. Recently, Hong Kong’s White Cube presented a solo exhibition of the artist, showcasing his new installations, sculptures, paintings, and sound pieces.

In the exhibition, Evans envisions the exhibition hall as a “local temple” form, where the audience can not only appreciate the works, but also have a space for reflection. Between the art pieces and the shadows, vibrations, remnants, and echoes around them, the space generates different possibilities. Through the works, we can see how the artist delves into their intellectual and emotional worship through the transformation of form.

In the lower-level exhibition hall, a new set of “After Stella” neon light sculptures in rectangular shapes hang in the air. These suspended flat neon light lines form a translucent “image,” with other works appearing in a semi-hidden visual effect in the gaps. We can see the artist’s flat abstract works reimagined in three-dimensional space, using pop art as creative material.

The exhibition hall displayed two large gongs, filling the exhibition with vibrant, resonant sounds. In addition, one of the large sculptures resembling a Japanese folding screen, characterized by intricate cracks on the glass panels within the bronze frame, like a continuous stroke, running through its seven parts. To the audience, it looks as if the screen has been shattered by the sound of the gongs.

In addition to three-dimensional sculptures, the artist also created some pure white monochrome paintings with circular holes, which appear more minimalist in contrast to other light and shadow installations.

Feel free to visit the exhibition and appreciate the latest works of this conceptual artist!
