People often say that handmade items are full of warmth, precisely because they carry the emotions of the creator. Local sculptor Joe Li likes to incorporate his life experiences into his artistic creations, turning cold alloys into three-dimensional works full of delicate emotions. Recently, Galerie Koo presented the artist’s solo exhibition “We Met Fate,” which showcases heartwarming stories about human encounters to the audience.
Joe started as a factory technician and taught himself sculpture. His initial work experience exposed him to different types of machinery and knowledge, such as casting, tool polishing, and the use of materials like metal and wood. Combined with his creative inspiration, he has produced many exquisite sculptures over the years through outstanding craftsmanship. Later, he studied sculpture at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, exploring different creative mediums including sketching, stone carving, wood carving, clay sculpture, and installation art. His deep research into sculpture has elevated his work, bringing his pieces from galleries to large art fairs, reaching a wider audience.
This exhibition is also themed around fate. Joe believes that it is a mysterious thing, everyone has their suitable match, and when the time is right, they will appear. Whether it’s friendship, family, or love, it’s fate that brings everyone together. Through the artist’s sculptures, the audience can reflect on those precious relationships in life.
In addition to works related to “fate,” Joe’s past other creative series will also be exhibited in this exhibition, including: “Childhood Dreams,” “The Pathway of Life,” “Fly High,” “Dance of Life,” “Up to the Dream.”
