Recent global hot topics are inseparable from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and Hong Kong’s temporary achievement of one gold and two silver medals has caused a sensation throughout the city! Some people stay up day and night to watch the live broadcasts and support the games, while on the other hand, there is also a group of people using creativity to promote sports. A new art museum’s latest exhibition “Strength and Flexibility: Hong Kong Artists and Athletes” showcases works by 38 Hong Kong artists with athletes as the main theme. The athletes depicted in their works are full of vitality and shine brightly on their respective fields!
The exhibition is organized by a new art museum, co-organized by Cultural Dynamics and New Art Tide, featuring 71 pieces of work by 38 Hong Kong artists, most of which are newly created this year. Participating artists include Feng Jian, Ma Quan, Chen Zhaolong, Chao Xiong, Fu Wenyi, Xie Jianghua, Xie Chengxuan, Zhong Dafu, etc., presenting works on the theme of sports through different media such as sketches, oil paintings, ink wash paintings, watercolors, and rock paintings.
Artists use different styles and media to interpret sports themes; from realistic portraits of athletes to expressive dynamic scenes, and even abstract forms of expression, the content is rich and distinctive. The purpose is to promote sports activities through art exhibitions, and also to promote the indomitable spirit of athletes.
The special feature of this exhibition is that artists create their works after personally interacting with athletes. The event, organized by New Art Wave, has connected ten Hong Kong artists with eleven elite athletes, allowing them to introduce their own development and achievements to each other. Building on these ten artists, an additional twenty-eight participants have been invited to make the exhibition even more diverse!
The faces in the paintings are mostly inspired by real athletes. You may want to attend the exhibition and look for those familiar faces on the sports field!
