“SurrealHK,” also known as Tommy Fung, moved to Hong Kong from Venezuela in 2016. The works in the exhibition “Climate Change & The Housing Problem” embody a bright color style, creating a series of photographic works with a combination of realistic and abstract elements using Photoshop. As the exhibition’s name suggests, SurrealHK aims to raise awareness of climate change and housing issues in Hong Kong, using familiar environments such as IFC, Lion Rock, Choi Hung Estate, and Wah Fu Estate to highlight global climate change and Hong Kong’s severe housing distribution problems.

《Victoria Harbour Brownfield》

One of the works, “Victoria Harbour Brownfield,” made its debut in this exhibition, showcasing the effect of land reclamation in brown tones. The dense composition is quite striking and also prompts people to reflect: what will happen when Victoria Harbour turns into a brownfield?

《Lion Rock Houses》

If the space of country parks is used for building, what will our natural environment look like? SurrealHK turns the mountaintop of Lion Rock into a luxury residential area in “Lion Rock Houses,” with the words “for sale” written on it, humorously responding to this question.

《Lion Rock Wilfire》

Similarly featuring Lion Rock as the protagonist, the scene of the wildfire in “Lion Rock Wildfire” evokes thoughts of what a serious disaster it would be if the wildfires in the Amazon and Australia were to occur in Hong Kong!

《Public Estate Swimming Pool》

The exhibition also brings earlier works of SurrealHK, such as “Public Estate Swimming Pool”, which transforms a Hong Kong housing estate into a “swimming pool” with geometric lines, imagining whether the housing estate would be flooded when the rain is too heavy.

《Melting IFC》

The scorching hot weather in Hong Kong, combined with wearing a mask every day, makes people feel like they are melting. The artwork “Melting IFC” humorously turns the mall building into a giant melting popsicle.
