Local artist Feng Mengzhong’s exhibition “Thoughts on Things” depicts his nostalgia for his father and childhood memories.

It is often said that “seeing things reminds one of people.” I believe that everyone has some special things that they cherish, as they contain irreplaceable memories and emotions, becoming unique existences. For local young artist Jeremy Fung, “wood” is not only his creative medium, but also connects him with the emotions of his late father. His recent solo exhibition “Thoughts on Objects” at “Harbour City Art Gallery” documents the moments he shared with his father in his childhood.

Jeremy, who graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia with a degree in art and a master’s degree in art from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has had his works featured in various local joint exhibitions. He even won the grand prize from the Australia China Contemporary Art Foundation in 2014.

Jeremy has always loved nature, and for him, metals, iron, wood, and static things related to nature all contain vitality, and he has always liked to create on wood since he was young.

This exhibition is curated by former anchor Sharon Cheung, showcasing multiple works by Jeremy in the form of woodcuts and oil paintings. It is a dialogue between him and his father, as well as a reflection of his childhood diary, documenting scenes of past memories and his inner world as a child. For example, when he was scolded by his father in childhood, he would hide in a wooden cabinet and draw in a notebook. Some of his childhood doodles and phrases have become creative elements in his wooden paintings.

In addition to the indescribable feelings towards his father, Jeremy also used nature as the theme to depict his feelings towards Hong Kong over the past two years. The exhibition will be open until this Sunday, so everyone should take this opportunity to view his works.
