#FrenchMay: In response to the art project at the Paris Pompidou Center, 6 artists present the exhibition “Chinese Surrealism”.

In addition to the “Chu Teh-Chun Exhibition & Film Screening” event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the French-Chinese abstract artist Chu Teh-Chun, the Art Promotion Gallery also presents another exhibition “Chinese Surrealism” at this year’s Le French May Arts Festival, showcasing works mainly by Hong Kong artists. This exhibition also responds to the collaboration between the Pompidou Center in Paris and the Hong Kong Museum of Art in the exhibition “Beyond Surrealism – Pompidou Center Collection Exhibition,” engaging in an artistic dialogue with a series of French Surrealist works.

“The Chinese Surrealism” presents 15 works from 4 painters and 2 sculptors, each interpreting surrealism through elements from ancient and modern cultures. For example, Hong Kong emerging female painter Zhuo Jiahui, who specializes in meticulous painting, reflects on how traditional beauty can be integrated into the contemporary world after the peak of meticulous painting during the Northern Song Dynasty.

Her works mainly revolve around her personal experiences, Hong Kong landscapes, and city life, using male and female fish-human characters to depict heartwarming and quirky everyday events. Skilled in using colors, she portrays the scenes of hesitation and unspoken conversations between the male and female “fish-human” characters in her works, allowing viewers to savor the “silent dialogues.”
