Local artist Yeung Hok Tak’s latest exhibition “Hong Kong Showcase” captures the nostalgia of the past in his paintings.

Following last summer’s “Seems Like I’ve Seen You There Before,” local artist Yeung Hok Tak recently brought his work to the JPS Art Store in Central for his solo exhibition “Hong Kong Showcase,” presenting nostalgic paintings to the public.

In the previous exhibition, Yeung Hok Tak used a humorous and childlike approach to depict his emotions towards Hong Kong. This “Hong Kong Showcase” is a continuation of his 2019 solo exhibition in Tokyo. A series of works themed around Hong Kong and Japan, presented with an impressionist brushstroke and style, the unique use of colors leaves a lasting impression.

Yang Xuede depicted a coastal bar in his work “The World Almost Ended Last Night”, with the sky dyed in a sunset red under the setting sun, and the deep blue sea turned purple. With the strong color contrast, it creates a sense of loneliness, as if the beautiful scene is a fading memory, perfectly echoing the title of the work.

Also complementing the sunset scene is “The Last Sunset at Schooldays,” where students in the painting stand on a bridge, gazing at the vehicles passing by on the road. The exhibition also features artworks set against the backdrop of the city of Tokyo, such as in “Fly, Dragonfly!” where a young boy is playing in the river, evoking memories of childhood. There are still a few days left in this exhibition, so everyone remember to seize the opportunity to go and enjoy it.
