4 Hong Kong-based artists present the “Stay Home and Relax” joint exhibition at HART Hall in Central!

Faced with a complex and ever-changing world, artists always hope to engage in dialogue through creation, explore the unknown with their unique imagination, and offer new insights for uncertain moments. The non-profit art organization HART presents the “Stay Home Stay Calm” group exhibition curated by Kwok Ying, showcasing new works by Hong Kong-based artists Donald Teng, Shane Aspegren, Chen Qinxin, and Wu Jiaru at HART Hall in Central. They explore how the environment affects people’s emotions through themes of natural and supernatural phenomena, subtle modern relationships, and more.

“Staying Home, Nourishing the Spirit” is the first exhibition of the HART project, HART Social Studio, where the 4 participating artists have created innovative and experimental visual languages, reflecting on the positive impact of art and creativity in both content and form. During the preparation of the exhibition, they offered unique interpretations of the derived themes, exploring abstract and intangible things such as the texture of dreams, the scent of fear, the colors of the divine, and the shapes of the strange.

唐納天《屋即是空 空即是屋》

Donald Tian has a deep understanding of scientific illustration. His installation work “House is Empty, Empty is House” is particularly visually stunning in its large scale, magnifying and interpreting natural states that are imperceptible to the naked eye. By assembling different furniture accessories in a new way, he reveals the unpredictable nature of images, bodies, and spaces.

Chen Xinqin’s series of works are all presented in strange white textures, attempting to awaken unexplainable states in dreams and virtual worlds, exploring the blurred boundaries between the virtual and the real. His new work “Absolute Territory” shows an extreme obsession with cleanliness, this art installation is composed of a white carpet and a white structure handcrafted, with mouthwash placed on the top layer of the structure, the piece is like a virtual family altar used for purifying the mind and body.

陳昕沁《對摺》

The work “Fold” is composed of two bed headboards reflecting each other, like a city monument recording countless sleepless nights, using mirrors as a metaphor for cosmic consciousness, awakening people’s mysterious feelings.

Wu Chia-ju’s work “beige_object” is inspired by memory and future archaeology, using items preserved from daily household life to create sculptures, bringing a scene of future archaeology experience.

吳佳儒《門神 I & II 》

Wu Jiaru uses another work, “Door Gods I & II,” to metaphorically interpret the famous saying of the Chinese philosopher Laozi, “Strength lies below, weakness lies above,” reinterpreting the traditional image of the family guardian deity with unique visual language.

Shane Aspegren combines experimental music with a series of small sculptures made from natural materials in “Vessels and Fitness payoffs,” continuing his research on frequency-driven mechanisms for body and mind healing. Through different sound frequencies, “Ratios for brief spells” stimulates visitors’ perception of body and mind, while also attempting to interpret various rhythms and frequencies that influence people’s daily lives through visual language.
