Located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, M+ showcases a series of moving image works focusing on Hong Kong, inspired by the unique language, architecture, aesthetics, and urban landscape of Hong Kong, on display on the M+ facade from now until March 21, 2024.
The program includes M+ Mobile Cinema Commissioning Project “Poetry Becomes Film” and “Hong Kong: In the Scene, Beyond the Imagined”. The concept of “Poetry Becomes Film” is inspired by Ann Hui’s documentary “Poetry”, which observes Hong Kong through the eyes of various Hong Kong poets. M+ has invited 4 emerging Hong Kong filmmakers to each create a short film using their unique and experimental techniques, reimagining contemporary Chinese poems written by Hong Kong poets. Each poem serves as the material and creative springboard for the narrative, aesthetics, structure, and atmosphere of the short film.
As for the project “Hong Kong: In the Scene, Beyond the Imagined,” it invited 5 local artists to explore Hong Kong through experimental ways with film lenses, two of which will be shown on the M+ facade. Countless films have been shot in Hong Kong, leaving a unique light and shadow imprint in the hearts of movie fans. Drawing inspiration from these classic Hong Kong images, M+ invites young artists to observe the city from a filming perspective, showcasing its delicate emotions and expanding its visual identity.
