French tycoon François Pinault, in addition to being the founder of Kering, is also a renowned art collector. Following the Palazzo Grassi and Punta Della Dogana museums in Venice, the Paris Stock Exchange, built in the early 19th century, has been renovated and will soon become his private museum, the “Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection,” set to open on May 22nd!
The renovation project of the Paris Stock Exchange cost 170 million US dollars, and invited the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando to redesign the European palace-style building with 130 years of history and full of Renaissance atmosphere. Tadao Ando used his expertise in modern architecture with “exposed concrete” to create a 9-meter high, 30-meter diameter large cylindrical wall under the dome, leaving the interior empty to create a approximately 3,000 square meter multi-functional circular exhibition space at the center of the building. Additionally, within the 5-story space, corridors, a performance hall, an auditorium, a restaurant, a lounge, and other areas were also planned.
As for some of the original features of the Paris Stock Exchange, including the arched roof, canopy glass, and relief elements, they are all preserved in this renovation. Not to mention a 19th-century panoramic mural, which will also be preserved after restoration, allowing visitors to feel the classical artistic atmosphere as soon as they step into the museum, while also experiencing the aesthetic of ancient and modern coexisting under Tadao Ando’s architectural style.
According to reports, the Pinault Private Art Museum at the Paris Stock Exchange will house over 10,000 contemporary art pieces from François Pinault’s collection, including works by famous artists such as Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koon, Damien Hirst, Piet Mondrian, Mark Rothko, and plans to hold 10 exhibitions annually. However, it is believed that in addition to these collections, the uniquely designed private museum itself is also an anticipated artistic masterpiece and a new tourist landmark!
