The first film “Applause” collaborated by Danny Chan, Leslie Cheung, and Paul Chung has been released for 43 years without realizing it! This year marks the 30th anniversary of Danny Chan’s passing. Emperor Motion Pictures has digitally restored this classic work in 4K and set up a special “Applause for Danny Chan‧Commemorative Exhibition” to allow fans to relive the classics and commemorate the idol of a generation, Danny Chan!
“Hepai” is the first film invested by Dr. Albert Yeung, Chairman of Emperor Group. The restoration of this historically significant and precious film is of great significance. This film, which has been away from the big screen for 43 years, will be re-screened and will be the first re-release since its premiere in 1980. It is scheduled to be released in Hong Kong and Macau on November 2, 2023, a rare opportunity!
The movie will take the audience back to the youthful years of the past, allowing them to experience the nostalgia and unique charm of the 80s. It not only showcases the real scenery of old Hong Kong, but also the popular culture of that time, including fashion, disco, DJ radio, and music. It also touches on hot topics of the past such as immigration and singing competitions, making it a youth story about chasing dreams!

In addition to film screenings, Emperor Cinemas will set up the “Applause for Danny Chan‧Memorial Exhibition” at Emperor Cinemas (Tsim Sha Tsui iSQUARE) starting from October 26, 2023. Audience can enter for free. The exhibition will be divided into three themed areas, including “Illuminate the Time with Singing”, “Wonderful Screenings of ‘Applause'”, and “Listen to Danny’s Inner Voice”, allowing fans to listen closely to the songs and experience the charm of “Applause”.
The lobby of the theater projects the lyrics of Danny’s classic songs, and the audience can also listen to three classic songs performed by Danny in the movie “Applause” at the same time! The corridor displays the movie posters, script manuscripts, and lobby stills from that year, which are precious and allow the audience to experience Danny’s youthful years along with the movie.
At the end of the corridor, the audience can step by step relive the major events of this prince of love songs’ life. Divided by different years on the left and right sides, with AI-restored Danny’s voice, immerse yourself in the feeling of his every life peak. And Danny, who is known for his taste, showcases his unique fashion taste in the VIP Lounge, allowing everyone to deeply understand the glorious years of Hong Kong’s first artist acclaimed as an “idol”.
