M+ Theater officially debuts in June! The opening program features 28 screenings of Wong Kar-wai’s “Days of Being Wild”!

M+ has always placed great emphasis on video art, film, and other contemporary visual culture. Recently, they announced that the M+ Cinema will officially open on June 8th, and have revealed a variety of exciting opening programs that will reinterpret Hong Kong cinema and avant-garde works from around the world!

M+ Cinema is composed of three theaters with 180, 60, and 40 seats respectively, showcasing a wide variety of moving image works, including feature films, documentaries, experimental films, video art, restored classics, cult favorites, and hidden gems. The cinema’s programming direction leans more towards the artistic route compared to mainstream theaters, with most programs echoing museum exhibitions and collection series, as well as addressing current important issues.

The opening program of the M+ Theater will screen 70 films from Hong Kong and around the world, with nearly 100 screenings, including films covering different themes, premieres of restored classics, art documentaries, M+ collections, and other special screenings. The first films to be shown are Wong Kar-wai’s “Days of Being Wild” (1990) and Jia Zhangke’s “Platform” (1998) 4K restoration version. The M+ Theater will exclusively screen 28 showings of “Days of Being Wild” from June to August this year, and three showings of “Platform” in June.

In addition, the opening program also includes the “Opening Mirror: Hong Kong” special feature, which directly responds to the “Hong Kong: Here and Beyond” exhibition held in the museum’s underground lobby, exploring the illustrious film tradition and culture, as well as iconic cityscapes. The permanent “Creators and Events” series includes a range of thought-provoking and delicate documentaries focusing on visual arts, design, architecture, film, and performance, allowing the audience to delve behind the scenes and connect with the thoughts of various artistic creators.

Audiences can visit the official website to browse more screening programs. Movie tickets will be publicly available for sale starting from May 20 (Friday), so if you want to be the first to enter the theater in June to enjoy the movie, remember to seize the opportunity to purchase tickets!
