“Introduction of the 10 main characters in Eternals! Understand the thousand-year relationship between Eternals and Deviants in one article!”

Marvel’s latest blockbuster “Eternals” is officially released in Hong Kong, hailed as the most powerful lineup outside of the “Avengers” series, with a cast of up to 10 people. What roles do they play in Phase 4 of the MCU? What abilities do the Eternals, who are tasked with protecting the Earth and humanity within the MCU, possess? Moviegoers planning to attend this weekend must first get to know the identities of the various main characters.

First, let’s briefly introduce the background of the Eternals. Possessing infinite power, the Eternals actually appeared in the Marvel Universe at the very beginning. In the MCU, the First Firmament created the “Celestials” to be the true gods of its universe, and later the Celestials, who looked like “giants,” created a group of “Eternals” with advanced intelligence and immortality, sending them to live on Earth for 7000 years. However, when the Celestials created the Eternals, they also created the shape-shifting, genetically unstable “Deviants,” who have been in conflict with the Eternals and have long been harming humans. With Thanos rising in “Infinity War” and “Endgame,” these Deviants have awakened once again, intending to pursue revenge against Earth and the Celestials.

1. Angelina Jolie portrays Thena

Angelina Jolie, who has always been described as a “goddess” in the film industry, immediately took on an important role when she joined the MCU for the first time, playing the “warrior goddess” Thena in this film “Eternals”. In the movie, she has the ability to transform cosmic energy into weapons such as swords, spears, and shields. As the only character in the movie with blonde hair, Angelina Jolie perfectly embodies the title of “warrior” and “goddess”. Additionally, her character has a close relationship with Gilgamesh in the movie, making their bond feel as solid as family in the story.

2. Salma Hayek as Ajak

Angelina Jolie is the first to introduce, why is Salma Hayek’s portrayal of Ajak in second place? Because in “Eternals,” Ajak is the spiritual leader of the tribe, possessing extraordinary cosmic powers, able to quickly heal wounds. Ajak also has the ability to communicate directly with the Celestials, receive orders, and is also appointed to make major decisions for the Eternals. It is worth noting that in the original comic, Ajak is a male character, but director Chloé Zhao decided to go against tradition and shape Ajak as a character with a “motherly” image.

3. Chen Jing as Sersi

Sersi, played by Gemma Chan, is the first female protagonist in “Eternals”. She is extremely compassionate towards humans, with a gentle and kind personality. She has the ability to change substances, turning soil into water, wood into metal, and stone into ice. She often uses her powers to help humans lead stable lives. Despite her rich emotions, she also has a deep emotional connection with ordinary humans. In the film, Sersi settles in London with another character, Sprite, and works as a museum curator.

4. Richard Madden as Ikaris

Ikaris is the most powerful member of the Eternals, not only able to shoot highly destructive energy beams from his eyes, but also the only superhero in the team with the ability to fly. Despite his solitary nature, Ikaris, who naturally possesses leadership qualities, is seen as a leader by other members due to his powerful abilities.

And in the play, they are seen as a natural pair with Sersi, even entwined for several centuries.

5. Ma Dong-seok as Gilgamesh

“The Strongest Uncle” Ma Dongshi is the Gilgamesh of the Eternal Clan with the strongest energy strength, he will use cosmic energy to transform into boxing gloves, resist attacks from enemies, and use strong strength to push the opponent away.

However, the Gilgamesh outside the Eternal Clan is a tough and gentle real man, becoming the man by Thena’s side, taking care of each other meticulously.

6. Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo

In the movie, Kingo has fingers that can shoot cosmic lasers, and he sees Ikaris as a leader. Since separating from his people, he has become a famous Bollywood star. Interestingly, this time the Eternals gather and he even brings his personal assistant, planning to film the entire battle process as a personal documentary. In terms of abilities, in addition to finger lasers, Kingo is also proficient in ninjutsu and samurai abilities. As for the reason why? You’ll have to see for yourself.

7. Lia McHugh as Sprite

Settled in London like Sersi, Sprite, a character who maintains a youthful appearance, is portrayed by the 14-year-old child star Lia McHugh in the film. She has the ability to create illusions, causing enemies to fall into situations where it is difficult to distinguish between reality and falsehood. Because the Eternals do not change their appearance, she often envies other members of the tribe who can experience the life of falling in love, getting married, and starting a family, forming a very interesting contrast with other characters.

8. Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos

As the eternal “strategist” and “arsenal,” Phastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry, takes his name from the ancient Greek mythological figure Hephaestus. He possesses high intelligence and can use his cosmic energy to create many high-tech weapons, even assisting humanity in numerous advanced inventions over the years. His designs have become key weapons for the Eternals in their fight against enemies. Additionally, he is Marvel’s first openly gay superhero.

9. Barry Keoghan as Druig

In the original work, the character Druig is a unique hero with both good and evil qualities, possessing the ability to manipulate the minds of others, causing them to fall into chaotic thoughts at any time. In the movie, Druig is a character with a distinct personality, as his beliefs about the lives of other tribes and humans differ, leading him to keep his distance from other tribespeople and provoke conflicts.

10. Lauren Ridloff as Makkari

The first superhero with disabilities in the MCU, played by American deaf actress Lauren Ridloff, is a hero with super speed abilities in the story. She also has a little romance with Druig, adding a touch of warmth to the film.
