SK-II Recently announced the establishment of the brand’s global film studio “SK-II STUDIO”, collaborating with various filmmakers and animators to draw inspiration from women’s stories around the world, telling how they break through stereotypes and showcase the power of women in today’s society. SK-II STUDIO plans to release 8 original films this year, with the first film “The Center Lane” already released, focusing on the true story of the famous butterfly swimmer, Rikako Ikee.
“Ride Your Wave” is a Japanese film directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, who has won awards such as the Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival. Through the lens, he tells the story of Hinako overcoming illness and returning to the world of swimming after recovery. Rikako Ikee was named the “Most Valuable Player (MVP)” at the 2018 Asian Games for her outstanding performance, and was considered a top contender for a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. However, she was diagnosed with leukemia in February 2019.
In May 2020, still in the process of recovery, she collaborated with SK-II, took off her wig in front of the camera, showing her true self, and encouraged everyone to bravely take control of their destiny with her own story. Subsequently, Rikako Ikee made a stunning comeback to the competition, winning the runner-up in the 50-meter freestyle at the Japan Open after returning, and even had the opportunity to step onto the stage of the Japanese Olympic swimming trials.
The movie depicts her determination and courage to take control of her own destiny, growing and transcending unprecedented adversity. Through the experiences of Rikako Ikee, the film conveys that destiny is not a coincidence, but a choice, and that one can rewrite their destiny at any time with belief, highlighting the brand’s core concept of “#ChangeDestiny”.
