Stanley Kubrick’s horror masterpiece “The Shining” has been remade, with the new production incorporating another bizarre master?

In 1980, the film adaptation of the horror master Stephen King’s novel “The Shining” was released. Directed by Stanley Kubrick, this classic film is also the only horror or thriller film by this super director to date. The film has been released for over 40 years and is still considered one of the most influential horror films in film history by many directors. The reason why the film is so highly praised is not only because of some pre-production and post-production anecdotes – including Stanley Kubrick’s initial refusal of another horror film “The Exorcist” and insistence on finding a suitable story, leading to the making of “The Shining” – but also because the aesthetic standards within the film itself have become the main reason for making “The Shining” a classic work. The film’s artistry, cinematography, atmosphere, style, ideology, and more are all indispensable.

Recently, this masterpiece has been remade, and the new version incorporates another film master, the unique style of the master of surrealism, David Lynch, who is good at expressing stories from multiple perspectives through film aesthetics and advocating for polarized art.

David Lynch(大衛連治)

Titled “Blue Shining,” the 8-minute short film was personally remade by film producer Richard Vezina, who was curious about the works of the two directors mentioned above. One day, he suddenly had an idea and pondered to himself, “What if ‘The Shining’ was directed by David Lynch? What would it be like? Would it be a dream? Or another nightmare?” So, daringly, he incorporated elements from David Lynch’s various works into “The Shining” to create “Blue Shining.”

Richard Vezina reiterated that this creation is not an allusion to David Lynch’s “The Shining” under the lens, which may have a better effect, but rather an attempt to explore interesting possibilities through David Lynch’s unique aesthetic style to reshape the classic work. In “Blue Shining,” Richard Vezina inserts scenes, visual effects, and music effects from several of David Lynch’s films into the original work, referencing works such as David Lynch’s feature films “Eraserhead,” the bizarre classic “The Elephant Man,” “Dune,” “Blue Velvet,” “Wild at Heart,” “Twin Peaks,” and more, while maintaining the original version of “The Shining” in terms of plot and layout.
