This new non-limited edition not only pays tribute to the first true diving watch – the Fifty Fathoms, which was launched over seventy years ago and revolutionized the watchmaking industry, but also represents an excellent fusion of creativity and technology.
OCEAN OF STORMS, meaning “Ocean of Storms,” is inspired by the largest plain on the moon, called Oceanus Procellarum, spanning over 2500 kilometers north and south. This design not only symbolizes the spirit of endless exploration but also reflects humanity’s desire for the profound beauty of the universe. The black tone of the watch design is inspired by the new moon, also known as the “Black Moon,” imbued with mystery and the unknown.
This watch is equipped with Swatch’s revolutionary mechanical movement SISTEM51, which is the brand’s first and only fully automated movement. It is equipped with Nivachron™ hairspring, providing up to 90 hours of power reserve. Since its introduction in 2013, SISTEM51 has changed the history of automatic watches with its unique visible movement.
Not only that, but the design details of OCEAN OF STORMS are also eye-catching. The digital print on the dial showcases the stormy seascape on a full moon, while the rotor is carefully engraved with the pattern of Okenia Luna (nudibranch), which not only showcases the brand’s creativity but also symbolizes the concept of harmonious coexistence with nature.
As part of paying tribute to the original Fifty Fathoms, the case back of OCEAN OF STORMS is engraved with inspiring phrases such as “PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENCE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE – IMMERSE YOURSELF”, motivating wearers to explore the unknown world.
In addition, the water resistance of this watch reaches 91 meters, which is equivalent to 50 fathoms, a clever homage to the English unit of underwater depth measurement. Its strap is made from recycled fishing nets, highlighting a commitment to environmental protection.
The case and crown of OCEAN OF STORMS are made of Swatch’s patented Bioceramic material, which is composed of two-thirds ceramic and one-third bio-sourced material from castor oil, showcasing the brand’s innovative spirit in sustainable development.
This unique watch is being released with great fanfare at designated Swatch stores worldwide, with a limit of one per person per store per day.
