Unconsciously, Kim Jones has been at the helm of Dior for five years, and in the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, he chose to incorporate the brand’s iconic Cannage pattern throughout the entire collection, cleverly blending Dior’s design styles from different eras. Through the use of collage and juxtaposition, he merges the current design language.
As seen from the collection, Kim Jones combines the refined silhouettes of the Yves Saint Laurent era, the embroidery of the Gianfranco Ferré era, the circular gemstone designs of the Christian Dior era, and the textured textures of the Marc Bohan era… blending different styles and trendy elements from different eras, applying the artistic language from the history of women’s fashion to menswear.
The style and silhouette of Yves Saint Laurent are important sources of inspiration for this season’s collection, which has been redesigned and reinterpreted to become the main look of the season. Traditional menswear combines masculine strength with feminine delicacy, and the collision of British tailoring traditions and materials with high fashion tailoring sparks new ideas, revealing the fabric traditions of women’s clothing in men’s fashion.
The coarse tweed fabric and jewelry embellishments frequently seen on the fashion scene cleverly echo Mr. Dior’s 1960 autumn/winter collection design, while also blurring the boundaries between menswear and womenswear.
