#Milan Fashion Week: Five FW22 “Firsts” You Can’t Miss

Milan Fashion Week this season officially concluded, also the most attended by brands in the past two years since the outbreak of the pandemic, with brands like Gucci, Bottega Veneta, which have been absent from the schedule for several seasons, also returning to Milan Fashion Week this season, shining brightly. Of course, this season also continues to have many “New Comers” participating, so this season can be said to have welcomed the long-lost fashion week atmosphere.

When it comes to highlights of this season, we can’t miss several “first-time” events that have occurred. Here are five major examples:

Glenn Martens and Diesel’s first collaboration

Glenn Martens followed up his high fashion collections for Y/Project and Jean Paul Gaultier earlier this year with another incredible debut – his first physical fashion show with DIESEL – kicking off Milan Fashion Week. The season’s highlights include super mini skirts, oversized jackets, and deconstructed denim pieces, completely transcending DIESEL’s traditional ready-to-wear image.

Matthieu Blazy’s First Time with Bottega Veneta

In front of a crowd including Jacob Elordi, Julianne Moore, Tracee Ellis Ross, and “mentor” Prada’s creative director Raf Simons and Pieter Mulier, Bottega Veneta’s newly appointed Matthieu Blazy presented undoubtedly the most anticipated and eye-catching debut of the season: his first collection designed for Bottega Veneta months after Daniel Lee’s departure. Highlights include leather vests and jeans, long skirts with fringed bottoms, and a subtly tailored jacket inspired by a sculpture created by artist Umberto Boccioni in 1913.

Gucci and adidas Originals’ first collaboration

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s appearance was undoubtedly the only surprise before the start of Gucci. After holding independent shows for several seasons, GUCCI returned to Milan this season, breaking the rumors that had been circulating for months, and collaborating for the first time with sportswear giant Adidas, who had just partnered with Prada. The iconic stripe patterns of these two brands complement each other in a colorful graphic series, including suits, suits, and more suits.

Yoon Ahn and Ambush’s First Time

Designer Yoon Ahn is highly respected for her killer accessories and jewelry, and her debut at Milan Fashion Week was a spectacle that perfectly met the expectations of this beloved designer. In the center of the scene was a giant sphere surrounded by drones and robots, with sand covering the entire setting, and the whirring of helicopters providing the soundtrack. Highlights included beaded fringe dresses, heart-shaped bags, and thigh-high Mary Jane buckle platforms.

Giorgio Armani’s First Time at Milan Fashion Week

Giorgio Armani has not collaborated, let alone participated in Milan Fashion Week for the first time. The Italian fashion godfather became the first designer to “speak out” directly through a fashion show due to the outbreak of the Ukraine war, but this time he is “silent protest.” He said, “What can I do? I can only express my heartbeat for the tragedy through silence. I don’t want to show music. The best thing is to send a signal that we are not happy.”
