【Sports Car Feature】Top 15 Most Followed “Supercars” on Instagram (Part 1)

Last year, the car magazine “Veygo” listed the top 30 most followed car hashtags on Instagram. Topping the list was the American classic car Ford Mustang, which has a 55-year history. The hashtags #fordmustang and #mustang together brought in nearly 12 million engagements, far surpassing the second and third spots held by Honda Civic and GT-R with just over 7 million engagements each. However, another key point of this study should be the focus on the type of cars. Among the 30 cars, “Sportscar” was the most popular category, with over 12 cars falling into this type. Therefore, today let’s take a look at the 15 supercars that have garnered the most attention in 2020 so far.

15. Ferrari F430 – 425,628 hashtags

Due to Ferrari’s increasing excellence in technological research and development in recent years, the manufacturer has allocated most of its resources to developing more outstanding new models. As a result, the upgraded version of the Ferrari 360, the F430, has been in production for over 10 years, with a significant decrease in recent years, but it still remains one of the most attention-grabbing supercars. It seems that everyone still remembers the F430 with the “stick shift” option.

14. Pagani Huayra – 456,781 hashtags

The Huayra, which was launched in 2011, unexpectedly managed to surpass the iconic Pagani Zonda from the same manufacturer and made it onto the list of selected models. As the first hybrid vehicle of its kind, its debut was truly groundbreaking. With the backing of the Zonda name, the Huayra garnered significant attention upon its introduction, especially after receiving the ultimate endorsement from the couple Kanye West and his wife.

13. Ford GT – 458,001 hashtags

Continuing the legendary GT40 from Ford, the Ford GT, which debuted in early 2002, has been synonymous with supercars for over a decade. Later, to commemorate the classic battle of Le Mans 24 from 50 years ago, Ford brought the second generation Ford GT in 2016, further showcasing the manufacturer’s expertise in automotive research. As for the story and influence of the Ford GT, it is impossible to introduce here, so perhaps you can start by learning about the GT40’s story from “Ford vs Ferrari” first.

12. Lamborghini Murciélago – 483,561 hashtags

Listed as one of the top ten Lamborghini models, the Murcielago was the first supercar produced after Audi acquired the car manufacturer, and it was also one of the few flagship racing car models. The Murcielago, which made its debut in early 2001, can be said to have inherited the lineage of its predecessor, the Diablo, and did not disappoint, achieving a top speed of 0-100km/h in just 3.5 seconds. It is worth mentioning that the Murcielago is one of the few Lamborghini racing cars named after non-bull breeds. In Spanish, Murcielago means “bat,” hence the reputation of being a “bat car,” although it has never appeared in any Batman movie.

11. Ferrari 488 GTB – 635,689 hashtags

To continue the legacy of Ferrari’s first mid-engine V8 rear-wheel drive legendary supercar 308 GTB from 40 years ago, Ferrari officially unveiled the all-new generation mid-engine V8 sports car 488 GTB at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, setting a new record for air dynamic efficiency of Ferrari road sports cars at the time. The design of the 488 GTB, crafted with a single cylinder volume of 488cc and a luxurious dual-door exterior, draws on valuable experience gained in F1 racing, the 2014 World Endurance Championship, and the XX program, leading to the debut of this unparalleled track champion. Subsequently, the 488 Pista, bearing the reputation of Ferrari’s strongest V8 engine in history, emerged as the pinnacle of the 488 series.

10. Bugatti Chiron – 663,093 hashtags

When it comes to supercars, the iconic French brand Bugatti is a must-mention. Carrying the name of the legendary driver Louis Chiron, the Bugatti Chiron may not have the sleek lines of Ferrari or Lamborghini, but its immense power is enough to make those two manufacturers tremble. Introduced in early 2016, the Chiron comes with a specially designed 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, capable of handling 1,500 horsepower, 163.2 kilograms of torque, and a four-wheel drive system, effortlessly reaching speeds of 420 kilometers per hour and accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers in under 2.5 seconds.

9. Bugatti Veyron – 821,706 hashtags

The Bugatti Veyron, also from Bugatti, has 160,000 more followers on IG than the Chiron, probably because of the master and apprentice relationship. Before its official debut in 2005, the VW Group, which had just acquired Bugatti, promised to create another classic after founder Ettore Bugatti, resulting in the world’s first limited edition of 300 units, valued at up to 1.2 million euros: the Bugatti Veyron is the first supercar in history to break 1000 horsepower and exceed 400 km/h. It wasn’t until 2016 that the upgraded Chiron appeared.

8. Honda NSX 1,033,656 hashtags

初代 NSX & 2019 NSX

Although the new generation NSX was released in 2015, when it comes to this car, it must be the original version, the 1991 NSX with a 30-year history. NSX is not only a proud model of the Japanese car factory, but also one of the benchmarks in the Japanese car industry. When NSX was launched, it was not only to challenge the top European car manufacturers, but also to surpass them and make history in the world car industry. Therefore, Nissan first incorporated the concept and car-making technology of F1 racing cars into this road car. The method of creating the body with a full aluminum alloy chassis has been referenced by many top car manufacturers. So, the road racing cars we have always heard of, such as the Ferrari F50 and McLaren F1, are actually just following in the footsteps of the Nissan NSX.

Next, we will introduce another 7 most popular supercars on the leaderboard. Car enthusiasts, don’t miss out!
