The biennial “Rolex China Sea Race” will soon kick off on April 5th in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong. Participants will need to cross the South China Sea and head straight to Subic Bay, Philippines, with a total distance of 565 nautical miles.
“The Rolex China Sea Race” is now in its 61st year. The first edition of the race took place in 1962 and is the longest-running classic offshore race in the Asian region. Since 2008, the race has received strong support from Rolex.
There are two major awards in the competition, the most coveted honor being the “Rolex China Sea Race Trophy” for the overall champion in corrected time under IRC; as for the first boat to cross the finish line (line honors), it will be awarded the “Sunday Telegraph Trophy”. The overall IRC champion and the individual boat line honors champion will receive a Rolex watch. Over the years, winning boats have included elites from Hong Kong, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, and other Asia-Pacific countries, as well as competitors from Australia, the UK, and France who have traveled from afar to claim the trophy.
