Yohji Yamamoto, known as the “Black Poet,” recently collaborated with Puyi Eyewear to launch the first special edition eyewear collection called Yohji Puyi 2023.
The series is divided into four designs: Awaken, Reform, Innovate, and Augment, which include sunglasses and optical glasses. The designer specifically collaborated with Yohji Puyi for the lettering and selected high-quality titanium as the main material, which is meticulously crafted by experienced Japanese craftsmen using complex processes.
The entire collection is dominated by Yohji Yamamoto’s signature black, silver, and gray tones, complemented by various Y-shaped details such as three-dimensional Y-shaped temple arms and temple arm tips, as well as Y-shaped engravings on screws. Some styles also incorporate matte gold elements that feature the characteristics of Puyi glasses. The designs feature different frame shapes, such as classic retro round, fashionable hexagonal, and rimless styles. For example, the front frame of the Augment style is specially designed with a titanium alloy top bar, revealing a rebellious and unconventional meaning.
In addition, the brand has specially invited top fashion photographer Takay, who has worked closely with Yohji Yamamoto for many years, to personally handle the shooting of this advertising campaign. Together with renowned Japanese stylist Tsuyoshi Noguchi, they have collaborated on the styling design. They have also invited a group of Japanese male stars from different generations, including Hidemi Ito and Yu Shirota, to interpret the unique styles of different series.
