In addition to professional photographers, nowadays, many people are accustomed to taking photos with their smartphones. Recently, Xiaomi announced a collaboration with German optical expert Leica to jointly develop precision professional optical lenses, and incorporate Leica’s latest optical imaging technology into the camera system of the upcoming Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
The Ultra main lens uses an 8P non-spherical lens, which can solve problems such as glare, ghosting, and chromatic aberration in shooting; the lens group also adds anti-glare lens coating, lens edge anti-reflective ink coating, and cycloolefin polymer material, plus an infrared filter with a rotary coating process, making the captured images more detailed and clear.
As for the Leica native dual-camera aesthetic adopted in the system, it presents Leica’s classic color tones and aesthetics through AI, with two built-in Leica photography styles, including Authentic Look (capturing Leica’s famous detailed and naturally delicate images, retaining light and shadow contrast, adding a sense of three-dimensionality to photos) and Vibrant Look (a system co-created by Xiaomi and Leica, easily capturing moments of emotion).
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is equipped with a 1-inch SONY IMX989 sensor, with a single pixel size of 1.6μm, and a combined pixel size of 3.2μm, effectively increasing light absorption and reducing noise, allowing for clear and detailed images even in low-light conditions.
