The second season of Extreme E racing is in full swing, with the addition of traditional British car manufacturer McLaren. Last month, XE Sports Group announced the establishment of the first-ever Extreme E Asia-Pacific team, set to compete in the third quarter of next year. Former English Premier League star and Australian striker Tim Cahill will serve as the team’s chairman. The event has already completed three rounds, including two races in the Island x Prix series. Official timing partner ZENITH has also launched a second special edition Defy Extreme Carbon watch to commemorate their partnership during the event.
Just like the first series launched in February, ZENITH this time takes inspiration from the two-stage series of Island x Prix in Sardinia, Italy, and continues to use the DEFY Extreme Carbon watch as the blueprint, designing upgraded elements derived from this championship and combining them with the bright orange color as the official color scheme for this double race.
The newly launched watch, named the DEFY Extreme E “Island X Prix” special edition, continues the design elements of a sturdy and durable carbon fiber case, multi-layered skeleton dial, dyed blue sapphire crystal glass, and is themed in the official colors of the “Island X Prix” event – orange – to reflect the scorching temperatures on this Italian island. Additionally, the crown, chronograph buttons, button protectors, etc. are all made of micro-blasted titanium metal, with the case still featuring a twelve-sided bezel, highlighting a bold, angular geometric shape. The watch also comes with two additional straps, a black rubber strap and a black Velcro strap.
In terms of movement, as a professional area for ZENITH, the brand continues to equip new works with the El Primero 9004 automatic movement, whose high-frequency movement structure can be vaguely seen on the dial and case back. The movement is accurate to maintain at 1/100th of a second, equipped with two sets of escapements, one for time display, vibrating at 5 Hz (36,000 times/hour); the other for chronograph, vibrating at 50 Hz (360,000 times/hour); power reserve provides at least 50 hours.
It is worth mentioning that the brand has specially created a sturdy waterproof and pressure-resistant safety protection box for the DEFY Extreme E “Island X Prix” watch, using recycled E-grip tires, waterproof fabric from the Extreme E first season race car for the box cover coating and nameplate protection layer, adhering to the core concept of sustainable development advocated by Extreme E racing and ZENITH HORIZ-ON. As the second exclusive special edition watch in this series, the DEFY Extreme E “Island X Prix” will continue to be limited to 20 pieces and will be available for sale at ZENITH boutiques and online stores worldwide. Fans of watches or cars who are interested may want to learn more and make a purchase at the store as soon as possible. As for whether the Rosberg X Racing team can score points in the remaining two races and win the championship for the second season, everyone will have to wait patiently for the final round of the competition in November.
