French luxury fashion brand GIVENCHY, since Matthew M. Williams took over, has once again established its distinctive brand style and image, even stepping into a new era. Today, Matthew Williams is about to bring new ideas to the brand, happily announcing a special collaboration with the classic American animation and film company Disney, and will soon launch a limited collaboration series.
The message was posted by GIVENCHY official on Instagram, and the first appearance was the iconic character in Disney’s history, known as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Starting with this character is quite reasonable, as within Disney’s film and television empire, Oswald is considered the original character, even being hailed as the iconic character Mickey Mouse’s older brother. As early as 1927, before the establishment of the Disney empire, founder Walt Disney created 26 episodes based on Oswald, and because Walt Disney incorporated three-dimensional character traits into Oswald, this character subverted the film and television industry at that time. However, due to distribution issues he encountered, he suffered setbacks and temporarily lost ownership of Oswald, but used it as a lesson to recreate, eventually overturning the Disney empire and the iconic character Mickey Mouse.
However, this time, the collaboration between GIVENCHY and Disney has led to the absence of Mickey Mouse, with Dalmatian from “101 Dalmatians,” Elsa and Olaf from “Frozen,” and Bambi from “Bambi” making an appearance instead. To announce the news, the brand has teamed up with Disney to create a teaser, transforming GIVENCHY’s iconic headquarters on Avenue George V into Disney’s dream factory in animated form. As onlookers peek inside from the windows, they will discover silhouettes of different Disney characters appearing, like a whimsical carousel.
It is worth mentioning that among the four upcoming series characters, Bambi is the most familiar to Givenchy supporters, as the brand previously launched clothing and Antigona handbags featuring Bambi patterns in 2013 under the then creative director Riccardo Tisci, sparking a buzz at the time. Could this launch be Matthew M. Williams’ way of thanking this “predecessor”? (If you remember, when MMW took office, he deliberately left a photo of Riccardo Tisci on the brand’s official Instagram – the photo is still saved on the platform)
The first wave of the Disney x GIVENCHY collaboration series will be launched on May 17th (today) local time. Friends who are interested can learn more at GIVENCHY’s designated brand stores or official website. The brand also revealed that this collaboration will bring a series of special creations, so be sure not to miss it.
