As the main sponsor of the Mercedes-AMG Patronas F1 team, IWC Schaffhausen officially announced this morning the launch of the first official team watch, based on the pilot series IWC Pilot watch, created in the iconic colors of the team and Patronas Petronas – Petronas green – the new IWC Pilot 41 Mercedes-AMG Patronas Formula One Team special edition.
With the F1 season about to kick off this week at the brand new race in Miami, IWC has made a grand announcement for the team, giving them an early boost. As the official timepiece of the team, IWC has meticulously crafted the IWC Pilot 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team special edition watch using lightweight and durable Grade 5 titanium, a high-end material widely used in automotive engineering, reflecting the team’s identity and their collaborative relationship. The 41mm case, machined and sandblasted, showcases a captivating grey finish, with a black sandblasted dial underneath, complemented by black hands, petrol green hour markers and text, all coated with luminescent material. The watch comes with a black embossed calfskin strap and a green rubber strap, both equipped with the EasX-CHANGE® system for easy and quick strap changes with just a push of a button.
In terms of movement, the IWC Pilot 41 Mercedes-AMG Patronas Formula One Team special edition watch is equipped with the IWC in-house 69385 movement, which features a classic column wheel design and a bidirectional pawl winding system made up of 231 parts, providing the watch with a 46-hour power reserve, as well as hour, minute, and second chronograph functions. Wearers can also admire the intricate structure of the movement through the sapphire crystal case back.
IWC has been the official engineering partner of the Mercedes-AMG Patronas Formula One team since 2013, witnessing the team’s brilliant performance in F1 over the years. With the official launch of the team’s watch, IWC will provide watches for the team’s designers, aerodynamicists, race engineers, strategists, and mechanics. Of course, it also includes the three key figures – Mercedes-AMG Patronas Formula One team principal and CEO Toto Wolff, and the two drivers, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
