If you have been paying attention to recent automotive news, you should know how shocking BMW’s declaration to a well-known electric car manufacturer in the United States is. However, besides attracting a lot of car enthusiasts to BMW’s headquarters, BMW Hong Kong BMW HK has also brought some recent updates, officially announcing that the upgraded BMW Tsuen Wan showroom has been fully opened, and there is also a brand new masterpiece – the BMW 218iA Active Tourer – officially joining the new showroom as well as the brand showrooms in To Kwa Wan and Wan Chai.
The newly upgraded and refurbished showroom in Tsuen Wan immediately showcases a wide range of BMW vehicle series families, from the muscular M series lineup to the X series SUVs and the increasingly popular all-electric i series. However, the most eye-catching model in the showroom is undoubtedly the BMW entry-level flagship, the recently revamped BMW 218iA Active Tourer.
As the core model of this release, the all-new BMW 218iA Active Tourer is introduced by BMW under the banner of “dynamic x practicality”. The upgrades involved in the new car cover performance specifications, exterior and interior design, further solidifying its identity as the “entry-level flagship model”.
In terms of appearance, the all-new 2 Series Active Tourer blends dynamic and modern aesthetic design, especially highlighting its uniquely dynamic and sleek body lines. The most obvious upgrade is the octagonal integrated kidney grille that is now a feature of modern BMW models. At the same time, the new car also features slim and long L-shaped adaptive LED headlights and three-dimensional LED taillights with a dazzling black surround. The door handles have also been updated with the unique hidden design found in THE iX and THE i4, enhancing the minimalist levels of the exterior appearance in detail, thus showcasing the new car’s youthful and elite dynamic posture.
Upon entering the exquisite cabin, you can see that the all-new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has introduced a range of cutting-edge BMW features, including BMW Live Cockpit Plus with iDrive 8.0 system, BMW Personal CoPilot intelligent driving assistance system, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and user-friendly voice recognition function. Noteworthy is the 10.7″ central control screen, which BMW intentionally continues the design philosophy of different vehicle families by integrating it with a 10.25″ instrument panel to form a seamless curved screen; the system also provides navigation systems for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, as well as support for Remote Software Upgrade technology, which provides cloud services for car owners, allowing them to update the system at any time without having to bring the vehicle back to the service center, greatly enhancing the convenience and efficiency of the system. As an entry-level model, it is quite an attractive and comprehensive selling point, directly reflecting the value of the new car.
As for specifications and performance, the all-new 218iA Active Tourer has made significant upgrades in dynamic performance, intelligently interpreting its unique personality. The new car is equipped with a power package, featuring a 1.5L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline three-cylinder gasoline engine, paired with a seven-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission, and adopting a new hydraulic shock absorber design and a two-stage shock absorber tube. Furthermore, the new design further places the engine in a more central position on the chassis to comprehensively enhance driving comfort, providing a more balanced and smoother driving experience. Even though the new car still attracts attention as an “entry-level series,” the all-new 218iA Active Tourer can output a maximum torque of 230 Nm at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, and horsepower peaks at 136 hp between 4,400 and 6,500 rpm, which is considered quite ideal in terms of performance efficiency.
In recent years, there has been a strong trend of Car camping, and small to medium-sized leisure travel vehicles, and even mini four-wheelers, have become popular in the market. As a newcomer in the Tourer category, the 218iA Active Tourer is making a comeback, with its Tourer features being one of the key upgrades. According to BMW official data, the new car’s trunk capacity has been expanded to up to 1,455 liters, and it also features the Comfort Access keyless system already present in the i series. The addition of the electric tailgate function allows owners to easily open the sensor-controlled electric tailgate by simply extending their foot under the tailgate, making loading and unloading luggage safer and more convenient. This is undoubtedly a detail design that adds value for car enthusiasts who enjoy camping in their vehicles.
