This is an interesting phenomenon: open any social platform, and you will find under the tags #Dior or #DiorOblique, ladies showcasing Dior Oblique looks “head to toe,” including the most common swimsuit styles in the hot summer season. Today, led by Kim Jones, the Dior Men team announced the launch of a new Beachwear Capsule collection, and for the first time, they collaborated with the environmental organization Parley for the Oceans for a joint design, giving back to a green future.
The newly released Beachwear Capsule series, led by men’s artistic director Kim Jones and designed with the participation of Parley for the Oceans, provides professional advice on sustainable design for some of the works in the series to assist Dior in promoting the fashion industry’s move towards a green, innovative, and sustainable future, thereby igniting greater momentum for action to stop the rapid deterioration of humanity and the natural world.
In terms of design, the collection draws inspiration from the deep connection between Dior and nature, evoking memories of founder Christian Dior’s childhood love for flowers and gardens, his yearning for the ocean, and his fascination with the English Channel. This resonates with Kim Jones, who has been traveling the world with his father since childhood, sparking his own fondness for the marine world, leading to the design and collaboration of this season. Kim Jones previously collaborated with Parley in 2019, and this collaboration will be based on their specialized material, Parley Ocean Plastic®, developing new yarns and fabrics using upgraded recycled ocean plastic fragments and fishing gear collected from coastlines and remote islands around the world. These high-performance materials will be produced using production techniques from Parley’s global network and ultimately crafted into garments by the artisans at Dior Atelier.
In the hands of craftsmen, these new materials will be transformed into high-quality fabrics such as jacquard, mesh, and technical canvas, replacing newly made polyester fibers. Featuring a palette of gorgeous blues and ochre yellows, they incorporate iconic patterns like Dior Oblique, bayadères, and Adriatic, creating three-dimensional jacquard and cloud-patterned fabrics. These fabrics are then sewn into a range of mix-and-match summer casual wear, including silk trousers, thick t-shirts, polo shirts, knit sweaters, and two portable jackets that can be stored in a Saddle Bag-inspired bag. The popular B23 sneakers are crafted with grey-blue Adriatic fabric and a bioplastic sole, creating a unique sunset-inspired design for the collection.
The collection blends elegant styling, advanced technology, and exquisite craftsmanship, reflecting Dior’s industry thinking towards sustainable fashion development. As summer approaches, the new Dior Men’s Beachwear Capsule exclusive series has been launched. Interested friends can learn more at designated Dior brand stores or official website.
