The annual event of the watch industry, Watches and Wonders 2022, officially kicked off with much anticipation. The Rolex has just released several new watch series for 2022, including the long-awaited Air King and the Yacht-Master series, which is making its debut for the second time. However, the first to be introduced is another popular Rolex piece, the GMT-Master II, with a new bezel color scheme.
Undeniably, since Rolex sought changes in its iconic Oyster bracelet in recent years, the GMT-Master II has become a style that watch fans are eagerly anticipating to reappear. This time, the brand has uploaded detailed information as usual, mentioning in particular the introduction of independently adjustable iconic hands and corresponding movement structure in 1982. Therefore, even without explanation, watch fans can probably consider the color choice of “green and black bezel” as a tribute to the brand’s iconic green color.
The latest GMT Master II, can be said to be quite surprising. This time, through redesign, the watch has become a “left-handed exclusive” style, as the crown and its guards have been perfectly moved to the left side of the case, and the calendar window originally at the 3 o’clock position and the small window convex lens have also been adjusted to the 9 o’clock position. Seemingly ordinary position adjustments actually require changes to the precise testing process of the final test in the top astronomical observatory precision watch certification process, and the watch is equipped with a 3285 self-winding movement, providing a power reserve of 70 hours, and continues to have 10 patents, such as the Chronergy escapement device made of nickel-phosphorus, the blue Parachrom hairspring with enhanced anti-magnetic properties, and the Paraflex shock absorber that increases the movement’s shock resistance by 50%. In terms of functions, it can continue to accurately display hours, minutes, seconds, and date, as well as a 24-hour time zone display.
In terms of appearance, the new watch with a diameter of 40mm continues to be made of Oystersteel, with the most eye-catching “green black bezel” made of a one-piece Cerachrom ceramic bezel, unlocking Rolex’s knot in 2007 for not being able to launch a ceramic two-tone bezel. Therefore, many analysts point out that since 2013, Rolex has successively launched the “Batman” blue-black bezel, “Pepsi” blue-red bezel, “Root Beer” black-brown bezel, the “green bezel green dial” introduced in 2010, and the “green bezel black dial” two years ago. In fact, the brand’s most desired design is the combination of the never officially launched two-tone, green-black, ceramic bezel. The Oyster bracelet it comes with can still be replaced with a Jubilee or Oyster bracelet with the EasyLink adjustment system.
As for the GMT-Master II that will be appearing this time, will it once again become a hot item this year? I believe everyone already has an answer to this question, but due to its “left-handed” setting, will Rolex cool down slightly after the annual release of watches that always sell out quickly? Let’s wait and see!
