NFT Lamborghini, the Italian supercar manufacturer, is stepping into a new territory with its first-ever non-fungible token (NFT) project, and it’s going to space!
In just half a year, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have become a hot topic globally, breaking boundaries in art and various fields of contemporary society. Last week, Lamborghini released a teaser on social media with the theme “To The Moon,” revealing a brand new special creation. Recently, the car manufacturer officially unveiled this space-themed artwork – the Lamborghini Space Key, and announced that it will be auctioned off soon, with only five pieces available.
Lamborghini shared that as early as 2019, the car manufacturer had sent five advanced carbon fiber composite material samples to the International Space Station (ISS) and completed all related tests in space before returning them to Earth, achieving part of the “Space Key” art project. These materials mark a further milestone for Lamborghini and pave the way into the world of NFTs. The back of each space key carbon fiber is equipped with a QR code, marking the unique digital artwork created by the artist.
Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said: “Innovation is an essential and deeply rooted part of the company’s DNA.” “As a leader in carbon fiber composite materials research in the automotive field, Lamborghini broke boundaries in space two and a half years ago with a joint research project. Now, entering the metaverse undoubtedly becomes another proof of Lamborghini’s continuous exploration of new boundaries. We are very excited to enter this passionate and innovative field.”
However, since the announcement, the car manufacturer has been keeping a mysterious silence, not revealing the identity of the collaborating artist, and still not showing the full appearance of the artwork. Until recently, the car manufacturer not only revealed more details, but also publicly announced that this time, “Space Key” consists of five pairs of physical and digital artworks created by the well-known Swiss artist Fabian Oefner, with the artwork being a special creation based on the iconic Lamborghini Aventador series, the Aventador Ultimae. Fifteen hours ago, Lamborghini finally unveiled this artwork on social media platforms, officially naming it Space Time Memory.
“Space Time Memory,” created by Fabian Oefner, is a project that references the Aventador Ultimae model with the codename LP 780-4. Using Oefner’s signature disassembly technique, over 1,500 individual components of the vehicle were captured, combined with a photo obtained from a weather balloon sent to the edge of the stratosphere, creating a stunning image of the LP 780-4 landing in space. As for the physical aspect, the “space key” made up of five delicate carbon fiber pieces, Oefner engraved a unique QR code on the carbon fiber, connecting it to digital artwork.
Fabian Oefner describes his two works this way: “In the process of creating the project, I found myself very interested in the intersection of the digital world and the physical world. The charm can be seen from two perspectives, the car model and its parts are real things, and through photographic documentation, they are digitally presented, with real tangible carbon fiber composite materials serving as the key to connecting the artwork to the digital experience. Both examples are a transition from the material world to the digital world.”
For this creation, Lamborghini collaborates with NFT PRO™ to enter the world of NFTs. Each NFT is engraved with a name and a unique number, allowing you to enter the NFT world where material and digital are connected by scanning the QR code on the carbon fiber.
