Patek Philippe brought a super shocking collaboration last night, announcing the limited edition 5711 Nautilus watch with Tiffany & Co., immediately attracting attention across the city. Why has this 5711 with a Tiffany Blue® patented dial become the focus of this year?
After being officially acquired by LVMH this year, Tiffany & Co. is believed to have a bright future with the support of its parent company. As a result, the brand’s first major move was to enlist Jay-Z and Beyonce as the faces of their campaign, followed by a high-profile collaboration with Supreme on a special jewelry and clothing collection. However, as 2021 comes to a close, Tiffany & Co. has partnered with the prestigious and highly respected watch brand Patek Philippe to release a collaborative watch, further increasing the brand’s visibility.
This collaboration news was first announced by LVMH’s second prince, Alexandre Arnault, current head of Tiffany & Co., on his personal IG, and later confirmed by Tiffany & Co. Regarding the collaboration, it is actually based on the 5711/1A watch, launching a global limited edition of 170 collaboration styles to celebrate the 170th anniversary of their partnership.
In 1851, Antoine Norbert de Patek, a member of the Patek Philippe family and president at the time, visited the United States for the first time and met Tiffany & Co. founder Charles Lewis Tiffany in New York, quickly solidifying their collaboration. Therefore, their partnership is not just a simple combination of two brands, but a very intrinsic connection that began with a dialogue between two great families. Regarding this collaboration, Thierry Stern shared in an interview with CNBC: “This is good news for me to have successfully acquired Tiffany, and a small gift to offer. For me, I had to choose something very unique and different.” These words also symbolize the historical significance of the Nautilus Ref. 5711, which is irreplaceable.
This limited edition Nautilus Ref. 5711 watch, model 5711/1A-018, features a Tiffany Blue® dial created with Tiffany & Co.’s patented color. The dial also bears the logos of both brands, while the caseback is engraved with “170th Anniversary,” “1851 – 2021,” and “Tiffany & Co. – Patek Philippe.” As for where to purchase? It is understood that the watch will only be available at Tiffany & Co.’s iconic Fifth Avenue flagship store, as well as stores in Beverly Hills and San Francisco, priced at $52,535 USD.
The launch of this collaboration, in addition to being impactful due to its suddenness, the key reason that made the news attention-grabbing is because Patek Philippe announced in April this year that the iconic Ref. 5711/1A will officially be discontinued after this year, ending its 30-year production run. However, just when everyone thought it was true, the watch factory suddenly brought this news, making this Ref. 5711/1A-018 the last Nautilus 5711 in history!
Why? Thierry Stern explains: “I do not want Patek Philippe to become a ‘single product’ company. That is why I decided to stop production of the 5711. We believe that everything is enough.”
