This year marks the 90th anniversary of the iconic Reverso watch series. Earlier, JLC held exhibitions in various places, including Hong Kong, to review this groundbreaking design with a group of watch enthusiasts. Recently, the brand has specially launched the Reverso Tribute Enamel Hidden Treasures series, creating three Reverso watches through enamel craftsmanship to celebrate three art masters of the modern art era, Gustave Courbet, the genius painter Vincent Van Gogh, and Gustav Klimt.
This time, JLC launched a set of three watches, aiming to highlight the important status of three representatives of the Western artistic tradition. The three watches are crafted by JLC using three unique techniques from their own watchmaking workshops – grand feu enamel, micro-painting, and twisted cord decoration techniques – to reproduce their iconic paintings. The watchmakers carefully selected three works, including “View of Lake Léman,” “Sunset at Montmajour,” and “Portrait of a Lady,” to showcase their delicate colors on the back of the watch.
Vacheron Constantin: Traditionnelle complete calendar
Inheriting the spirit of high-end watchmaking from the 18th century, the recently launched Traditionnelle full calendar watch by Vacheron Constantin once again embodies the brand’s dedication to complex timepieces.
The name Traditionnelle suggests that the watch directly inherits Vacheron Constantin’s emphasis on traditional values. The watch interprets highly complex functions with exquisite aesthetic design. Aesthetically, the Traditionnelle with a 41mm diameter features an 18K white gold case paired with a swan velvet textured dark grey dial as the design focus. Details such as the stepped round case and lugs, grooved caseback, and princess-style hour and minute hands give this watch, which should have highly complex functions, a minimalist design on the exterior. Additionally, the watch is equipped with the self-winding 2460 QCL/1 movement, providing the Traditionnelle with a practical triple calendar display function, including a precise moon phase display that only needs adjustment once every 122 years. As for the strap, as always, it is paired with an elegant black alligator leather strap.
BVLGARI: BVLGARI BVLGARI Fragment 2021
Counting fingers, the Japanese trendsetter Hiroshi Fujiwara has made quite a wide range of creative attempts in recent years, from his expertise in fashion and culture to even stepping into music, machinery, and food. As a watch enthusiast and avid collector, Hiroshi Fujiwara has once again collaborated with BVLGARI this year, introducing the new BVLGARI BVLGARI Fragment 2021 limited edition watch.
For this collaboration, Hiroshi Fujiwara continues to select the BVLGARI BVLGARI watch, which has been a favorite for over 40 years. In terms of design, the “BVLGARI BVLGARI” double brand engraving on the bezel has been replaced with “BVLGARI FRGMT,” symbolizing the identities of both parties and commemorating this collaboration once again. The lightning logo of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s own brand, fragment design, continues to appear on the dial, crown, and transparent case back. Following BVLGARI’s advocated style, this BVLGARI Fragment watch presents a low-key, minimalist overall design, with polished surfaces and no hour markers, highlighting its aesthetic appeal.
Furthermore, the watch is also paired with two NATO nylon black or striped straps, echoing Hiroshi Fujiwara’s personal preferences, making the watch more trendy and fashionable. However, what you must know is that the BVLGARI BVLGARI Fragment 2021 watch is limited to only 600 pieces.
Panerai: Luminor Marina Quaranta
Once again, it is the Luminor Marina Quaranta watch, what is special about Panerai’s release this time?
This time, Panerai has introduced a new watch, changing the original 42mm size to a more authentic 40mm case diameter, making each new watch the most delicate size in the Luminor Marina production line. The new Luminor Marina Quaranta watch features a stainless steel case and comes with three different dial designs: the PAM01271 with a white matte dial, the PAM01272 with a black matte dial, and the PAM01270 with a blue sunburst dial. The dial designs all feature a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a date display at 3 o’clock. Panerai has also provided different strap options for the three designs, including black alligator strap, dark brown calf leather strap, and tobacco calf leather strap, all equipped with a quick release system for easy strap changes without the need for tools. Of course, Panerai’s own range of high-end strap designs are also suitable for this Luminor Marina Quaranta series, with the brand even announcing the upcoming launch of lightweight rubber straps for the series in the coming months.
As for the movement, the new Luminor Marina Quaranta watch is equipped with the P.900 automatic winding movement, with a thickness of only 4.2mm, providing a three-day power reserve, and water resistance of approximately 100 meters.
BREITLING: Super AVI
Once again, it’s the AVI series. However, this time, BREITLING brings us a “series work” called Super AVI.
A series of 5 models, after last year’s release, BREITLING has brought meticulously crafted new works to the AVI series, inspired by the brand’s original [Co-Pilot] Ref. 765 AVI watch from the “Huit Aviation Department” in 1953 and four legendary fighter jets, bringing several models with a diameter of up to 46mm, featuring oversized crowns, a fluted bezel design, and equipped with BREITLING’s in-house B04 movement providing approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
The first one, inspired by the Vought F4U Corsair fighter, features the iconic “blue” paint of the fighter throughout the dial, chronograph, and other parts, paired with a black leather strap; the other one, inspired by the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk fighter, a special edition watch with a military green dial, contrasting with white chronographs and red point scales and hands, and also comes with the distinctive shark mouth nose art of the fighter; the third one is the special edition Super AVI watch inspired by the De Havilland Mosquito, known as the “wooden wonder,” with an overall design consisting of a satin-finished black ceramic bezel, black dial, white chronographs, and details in red and orange reminiscent of its emblem and logo, making the watch particularly striking.
Finally, it is worth mentioning two special editions inspired by the North American P-51D Mustang fighter. One features a stainless steel case with a black dial and a gold-brown leather strap, while the other is made of 18K red gold, with a smoke gray dial and a black strap, the latter being an exclusive version sold only in BREITLING boutiques and on their website. Such design combinations directly echo the P-51D Mustang’s status as the best all-around fighter at the time.
