Since last June, when Givenchy reappeared under the guidance of Matthew M. Williams, its fashion image has been reinterpreted in a different way, allowing this brand symbolizing fashion craftsmanship to write a unique vision that was previously unimaginable. After several seasons of exploration, most recently, MMW has led Givenchy to take another step forward by introducing a series of 15 NFT art pieces, guiding it into a new world. It was recently announced that the brand has collaborated with artist Chito to create multiple graphic designs for the SS22 collection.
In the Pre Spring 22 collection released earlier, creative director MMW invited the well-known and admired graphic artist Chito to collaborate, incorporating the latter’s most iconic spray-painted patterns into Givenchy’s ready-to-wear collection. Now, the two are taking this groundbreaking collaboration to the next level by introducing a set of rare, unique NFT graphic designs, totaling 15 varieties. Of particular note, each design was created jointly by Chito and MMW, including the iconic True Heart print from the Pre Spring 22 collection.
For the first foray into NFT creation, MMW shared: “I have always wanted to explore this new and exciting NFT space. In fact, Chito has been active in the larger climate, which allowed us to naturally collaborate and develop this limited series, further enhancing our collective vision for Givenchy.” Inspired by NFTs, Givenchy and MMW both believe that it can provide immense power to artists like Chito, allowing them to directly share their work and vision with a global audience. This medium also represents a new way to conceptualize the role of fashion, bridging the gap between our real lives and the increasingly popular digital realm, merging two worlds. In order to maintain sustainability and ecological awareness, Givenchy has decided to launch this NFT series on the Polygon platform, known for its minimal energy consumption.
This launch will be a collaboration between the Aura Blockchain Consortium under LVMH and the leading NFT platform Ledger, consulting on the development of the smart contract for this NFT, ensuring its origin is directly minted from Givenchy’s Ledger Nano wallet. The auction will also help support Givenchy’s long-term preferred foundation, The Ocean Cleanup.
In addition to the Pre Spring 22 ready-to-wear collection recently launched, Givenchy announced that the Chito x Givenchy NFT series will be released on OpenSea on November 23 local time, with a 7-day bidding period. The highest bidder will receive the corresponding NFT artwork. This is the first NFT creation for Chito, Givenchy, and MMW, with these 15 pieces being uniquely original. MMW and the brand also suggest that collectors can use them as “avatars” to highlight the authenticity of this artistic creation.
