Once again, it’s the Winter 21 collection of Dior menswear, once again featuring a new range of bags, shoes, and accessories, and once again combining clothing craftsmanship with art. This autumn and winter season, Dior presents the “Camouflage Series” created with very unique designs.
Being able to create such a large number of products, in addition to relying entirely on the artistic director Kim Jones’s deep understanding of Maison Dior’s traditional craftsmanship, history, and even the experiences and aesthetic vision of the brand’s founder, Mr. Christian Dior, it is also necessary to mention the artist collaborated with for Winter 21 – the painting master Peter Doig.
This season’s men’s collection combines Dior’s brand elements with Peter Doig’s artistic imagination, reinterpreting essential classic pieces in men’s wardrobes. Among them, the woven flower Saddle and crescent-shaped Saddle Soft men’s bags blend details from Peter Doig’s past paintings, expanded with a camouflage pattern by a group of brand craftsmen using ink brush techniques, creating a stronger style than the past Dior Oblique embroidered or high-end leather Saddle bags.
Moreover, this season will see this camouflage pattern appear on the Dior Explorer boots and the popular B23 sneakers; it is worth mentioning that both shoes not only offer striking chocolate and cognac colorways but also a denim version.
Being recognized as a painting master in contemporary art, even though he has lived in many places since childhood and experienced different cultures, Peter Doig’s love for pure painting art has not diminished in the past thirty years. Peter Doig describes his work as “very ordinary paintings, depicting very mediocre subjects,” but in the past twenty years, he has had an extraordinary influence on the new generation of artists in the East and the West. His passion and poetry displayed on canvas have been fully extended into fashion creation after meeting Kim Jones.
