【Watch Special】The pain of the discontinuation of the iconic Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711, here are ten alternative options to consider!

The annual watch event Watches & Wonders has finally come to a close. This year, amidst the global pandemic, it was a relief that everything went smoothly. Whether it’s Patek Philippe successfully challenging the In-line perpetual calendar, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrating the 90th anniversary of the “four-sided” Reverso series, Rolex introducing the groundbreaking “steel” Explorer, CHANEL trying out the rainbow diamond J12, BVLGARI pushing the boundaries to the extreme, the most profound news in the watch industry, watch manufacturers, and watch enthusiasts is still the farewell to the blue-faced Nautilus 5711, or even the 5712, which is equally unsettling.

Since the news has become a reality, why not look ahead? Recently, the watch expert platform Watchfinder & Co. has carefully selected a variety of watches as replacement styles for the Nautilus 5711, allowing watch fans to consider other alternatives in the future.

IWC – Engineer

In 1976, the watch industry faced the quartz crisis, inspiring IWC to improve its Ingenieur collection. During the same period, AP’s Royal Oak and Patek Philippe’s Nautilus were also born. These three watches were all designed by watch design master Gerald Genta. Among these three watches, IWC’s Ingenieur series embodies Gerald Genta’s vision and is also the most affordable in terms of price.

Casio – CasiOak

Casio This style, affectionately known as “CasiOak” by watch enthusiasts, features an octagonal case and an integrated bracelet, similar to the Royal Oak and Nautilus. This is a very affordable style, even if scratched or damaged, there is no need to pay expensive repair costs.

Frederique Constant – Highlife Perpetual Calendar

The innovative Constance continues to place the perpetual calendar watch into a stainless steel sports watch with a blue dial and integrated chain strap. This versatile style not only has abundant supply but also is priced at only half the retail price of the Nautilus 5711 Steel King.

Vacheron Constantin – Overseas

Apart from AP and Patek Philippe watches, Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas collection is also considered one of the “Holy Trinity” of world-renowned watches. These three watchmakers are seen as the most outstanding in the Swiss watch industry. Why not take some time to pay attention to Vacheron Constantin’s rose gold Overseas series? Guaranteed to have a unique opportunity to wear a “statement piece”.

Chopard – Alpine Eagle

The Chopard Alpine Eagle collection is a luxurious watch style designed specifically for sports. Initially created for wealthy individuals who frequented St. Moritz in Switzerland in the 1980s, its modern version combines polished and matte steel, with a rough sunburst texture cleverly complementing the blue dial.

A.Lange & Söhne – Odysseus

The eagerly anticipated sports-style watch series created by Lange is a big step forward for the German watchmaker. The exquisite Odysseus can display both the date and day (day-date complication), featuring a stainless steel case, integrated bracelet, and a textured blue dial.

Zenith – Defy Classic

ZENITH is recognized as a powerhouse in chronograph and complex dial design, while the minimalist and understated design of the Defy Classic series brings surprises to everyone. The brand name “Zenith” is the only text on the watch, printed on the twelfth hour marker on the deep blue dial, below the five-pointed star.

Audemars Piguet – Royal Oak

The AP Royal Oak and Nautilus watches are both designed by watch design master Gerald Genta, making them the noble brothers of the watch industry. The initial concept of the Nautilus is derived from the Royal Oak, an oak tree left on the beach for a long time, enduring wear and erosion. Currently, Audemars Piguet is still producing various styles of the Royal Oak series, not as a substitute for the Nautilus Steel King, but rather as an option to further expand watch collections.

Patek Philippe – Aquanaut

In 1997, Patek Philippe, based on the success of Nautilus, dedicated itself to diversifying its products. Among them, the design of the Aquanaut series was updated to adapt to the current trend. The “ears” on the side of the case were removed and placed on a rubber strap. Additionally, Patek Philippe also redesigned the case to give the Aquanaut watch a more robust quality, complementing the “grenade” dial. The Aquanaut watch is similar in style to the Nautilus 5711, but with a more casual feel. Of course, if possible, watch enthusiasts would surely want to own the “green dial” surprise that made an appearance at this year’s Watches & Wonders.

Piaget – Polo

Like other famous modern watchmakers, Piaget’s Polo watches have an appearance and design style that dates back to the 1970s. This style leans towards a casual yet elegant dress watch, suitable for pairing with evening wear to highlight a simple and elegant temperament, as well as with a pilot jacket to stand out.
