#2021 Watch and Miracle: Rolex unveils the “Gold Steel” Explorer, intending to restore the style of the original generation?

In addition to introducing the Explorer II, Rolex also brought a modified version of the original model at this year’s Watches & Wonders 2021, presenting the new generation Explorer, which has garnered as much attention as the Explorer II. Watch enthusiasts should not miss it!

Since its debut in 6350, although the Explorer is not the first choice for Rolex fans, or the most popular style in the market, with over half a century of history, and a slight celebrity effect, the Explorer has always been a favorite of collectors who love it.

Apart from the Vintage version of the Explorer, friends familiar with it should have a slight impression. In terms of the revision years of the modern Explorer, the changes in 2010 and 2016 are the most significant. This time, after a gap of 5 years, a new version is being launched again, and Rolex seems to consciously take the changes to the Explorer seriously. With the new generation Explorer debut, Rolex boldly adjusts the size of the watch, reducing it by three millimeters from the existing 39mm to 36mm, which is the “original size” of the first generation 6350 in 2010.

On the other hand, Rolex has broken tradition by using the “Rolesor steel and gold” combination for its new model, allowing the design commonly seen in the Submariner, Daytona, GMT series to seamlessly join the Explorer family. The watch’s classic “3, 6, 9” Arabic numerals, indices, and three hands have also been changed to a white gold frame design, echoing the revamped overall design and adding a touch of luxury to the Explorer.

If you look closely, one of the changes in the new generation Explorer is definitely a big surprise for all Explorer supporters: the word “Explorer” on the dial has been moved from the upper six o’clock position in the previous version back to the lower twelve o’clock position below “ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL”, which is the original position of the first Explorer. In addition, a new word with the Rolex crown logo appears between “SWISS MADE” at the six o’clock position whenever a new piece is introduced, and it also appears in this year’s new releases.

In addition, the new Explorer is also equipped with a brand new movement, replacing the previous 3132 movement with the 3230 automatic winding movement that debuted last year (in the Submariner version without a calendar), instantly increasing the power reserve to 70 hours. As for the price that everyone is most concerned about, according to Rolex’s official display, the price of the new Explorer is HK$84,500. Watch enthusiasts, do you think the changes to this Explorer can reflect Rolex’s sincerity towards this timepiece?
