Waiting and waiting again, Rolex’s latest works for 2020 officially debuted this morning! Last week, Rolex released a video, with the content set against the backdrop of the deep sea, so the outside world can almost confirm that the focus style will be the diving series. This morning, Rolex finally revealed that the classic Submariner watch is officially back, and the brand also introduced 4 new models.
Introducing the new Submariner model Ref. 124060, which debuts with a “black circle black surface” design. As previewed, the dial officially eliminates the calendar display window at the three o’clock position, while the SWISS MADE label at six o’clock continues to feature the Rolex crown logo in the middle. Upon closer inspection, the minute markers that used to be below the SWISS MADE label have been moved to the top, and the font display in the center top and bottom is clearer than the previous generation.
This year, Rolex has launched a new model, making subtle changes that test the familiarity of Rolex fans with recent works. The new Ref. 124060 has also put effort into the bezel, slightly widening the case diameter by 1mm to 41mm, which in turn adjusts the case size proportion and bracelet width accordingly. The rotating bezel continues to use Cerachrom ceramic material.
As for the movement, Rolex continues its tradition of equipping new watches with new movements this year, with the new Submariner model Ref. 124060 now featuring the new 3230 movement. This is an improved version based on the 3235 movement that was recently introduced in models like the Datejust and Sea-Dweller. The new 3230 movement shows the most significant improvement in power reserve, increasing from 48 hours in the previous 3130 movement to 70 hours, and also includes Rolex’s in-house escapement mechanism for enhanced accuracy of within plus or minus 2 seconds per day.
Finally, of course, we have to mention the price aspect. According to Rolex, the official price of the new Submariner Ref.124060 is HK$63,100, which is slightly increased by nearly $2,000 compared to the previous generation.
However, this time Rolex also brought a series of Submariner new models with calendars, including steel case models with black dial and green bezel, black dial and black bezel; gold steel case models with blue dial and blue bezel, black dial and black bezel; yellow gold case models with blue dial and blue bezel, black dial and black bezel; and white gold case models with black dial and blue bezel.
