Have you ever heard of Lee Po Lung Road? This staircase path is a residential alley in Kennedy Town. There are also a few small lanes nearby, such as Tai Pak Terrace and Heung Hwang Terrace. Even if you usually go to Kennedy Town to visit cafes, small shops, and the seaside to take photos of the sunset, you may not necessarily venture into this area. However, the location is actually just off Belcher Street, a 5-minute walk from the subway station exit. You can reach this urban garden-like space, with old trees and many plants nearby, creating a peaceful and elegant atmosphere.
Last week, a new café called “COZE” opened next to the staircase on this small road. The interior and exterior of the shop are filled with green plants. Next to the entrance is a large glass window, and at noon, sunlight shines through the trees and casts shadows inside. Listening to the birds chirping outside, it feels like being in a utopia.
There are more food options than a typical café, more like a small restaurant. Highly recommended is the “House Mussel” ($138), made with plump and juicy blue mussels, cooked with lemon cream sauce, onions, cherry tomatoes, etc., it is sweet and smooth. The sourdough bread is baked to a crispy texture without being dry, and dipping it in the cream sauce makes it disappear instantly. In addition to mussels, you can also choose the mixed seafood tomato soup, which is also served with sourdough bread and is very generous with ingredients such as prawns, scallops, squid, mussels, etc.
All Day Breakfast ($128) is also very satisfying, with avocado, scrambled eggs, salad, smoked salmon, sourdough bread, and Parma ham, a large portion that fills the stomach.
Other dishes include cold cut platter, tiramisu croffle, homemade Basque cake, etc. The food quality is higher than that of regular cafes, and you can enjoy a cup of coffee while strolling through the small streets and absorbing the energy of the trees, which is particularly relaxing.
