When it comes to the most versatile and instantly elevating item in the wardrobe, the suit jacket is definitely one of them. The Dior Bar suit jacket, born in the first haute couture collection New Look in 1947, symbolizes the elegant style of Paris. Since its debut, this classic outerwear has been interpreted in many fashionable variations.
The Dior Bar coat is a key design of the 30 Montaigne collection, featuring a tailored waist, soft shoulder silhouette, hemline that accentuates the hips, and a low neckline design, rewriting the history of women’s fashion while showcasing the graceful curves and the balance of strength and softness of women.
Over the years, several Dior creative directors have repeatedly reinterpreted the Bar jacket, bringing new inspirations and themes, such as in the 2019-2020 fall/winter ready-to-wear collection, where the Bar jacket appeared with masculine lines, checks, and denim. In the same year’s fall/winter haute couture fashion show, the Bar jacket was redesigned with a black and white houndstooth design. The cleverly hidden seams and the contours that seem to be directly molded on the female body all highlight Dior’s exquisite craftsmanship.
Current Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s design adds a bold style to this jacket. In her 2020 resort collection, she collaborated with artists Mickalene Thomas and Grace Wales Bonner to blend silk and hand-woven coconut leaf with crochet and Caribbean embroidery techniques, combining vibrant warm tones with deep black, reshaping the classic silhouette of the Bar jacket, creating an intellectual and elegant fashion style.
