Chanel 2024 Autumn/Winter Collection: Returning to Chanel’s historical starting point in Deauville

Every season, Chanel seems to be telling the story of Gabrielle Chanel. Artistic director Virginie Viard takes us back to Deauville in the 2024 autumn/winter collection, the starting point of the Chanel brand. In 1912, Gabrielle Chanel opened her first fashion store here, and this season, Virginie Viard recreated the local seaside boardwalk promenade. Models strolled along the beach, showcasing new outfits in the racetrack, seaside, casino, restaurant, and palace, presenting a blend of the 1920s and 1970s glamour.

Aside from the brand’s birthplace Deauville, the 1966 love film “A Man and A Woman” starring Chanel’s close friend Anouk Aimée is also a major inspiration this season. As a result, two big stars Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz were specially invited to appear together, recreating scenes from this classic film. The shoot was directed by the brand’s long-time photography duo Inez and Vinoodh, paying tribute to the film and making this fashion show even more exciting!

Virginie Viard’s 2024 autumn/winter collection is dominated by warm colors such as pink, light purple, orange, and light blue, reflecting the ever-changing sky of Deauville. The collection combines brown and gold foil fabrics. To complement the theme, models wear pink wide-brimmed hats, exuding a neutral and feminine beauty throughout the collection.

Wide shoulder sailor jacket and morning gown style with a waist belt coat paired with diagonal twill soft wool suit, paired with pleated half skirts, skirt pants, sailor pants, showing different female styles. Coarse sailor sweater and knitted with Deauville landscape pattern, sailor collar silk shirt, herringbone print, ruffled low-cut top, jumpsuits and women’s morning gowns alternate, exquisite details like waves hitting the shore and a gentle breeze.

This season’s accessories, classic handbags in different new color tones debut, camellias, long silk scarf headpieces conceal the brand’s important symbols, styling with knee-high heels, or sheepskin knee-high boots, etc., making the entire collection exude a subtle and elegant touch of winter seaside holiday with a hint of masculinity.
