Louis Vuitton, the French luxury brand, held its first Pre-fall Collection fashion show since its establishment on April 29, 2023, at the Jamsu Bridge in Seoul, South Korea. This special bridge spans the Han River, connecting the southern and northern parts of Seoul. Nicolas Ghesquière, the creative director of Louis Vuitton women’s wear, also took the opportunity to reflect on his own design journey in the 2023 Pre-fall collection. Director Bong Joon-ho, known for “Squid Game,” served as the creative consultant for this show, bringing familiar and fresh works together with the brand. The ZTYLEZ editorial team was also invited to attend this Pre-Fall Show in Seoul and stayed at the legendary Signiel Hotel with 101 floors.

This LV fashion exhibition in Seoul is part of a new partnership with the Korean tourism organization and the Seoul city government, aiming to promote the Korean tourism industry and showcase Korean culture. The event will also set up large screens throughout Seoul and livestream to the world, inviting over 100 fashion-related students to visit the fashion exhibition. Louis Vuitton’s grand event is considered a crucial part of the Korean government’s annual visit activities, and the brand has chosen Han River and its surrounding attractions to be featured in their travel book. Additionally, Louis Vuitton’s annual photography book “Fashion Eye” will be set in Seoul, capturing new visual works.
“The Squid Game” director takes charge of designing the set.
Louis Vuitton’s 2023 early autumn extravaganza continues the brand’s consistent attention to space, with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, known for the popular Netflix series “Squid Game,” directing the set design. On a dramatic diving bridge, they create a dazzling display of light and water, culminating in a water dance performance that fully enhances the atmosphere of the event. Zheng Haojuan, the Louis Vuitton brand ambassador who gained fame from “Squid Game,” takes on the role of the opening model, embodying Nicolas Ghesquière’s creative vision with her natural and expressive performance.

Classic Sports Silhouette
Unconsciously, it turns out that this year is the 10th year since artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière joined Louis Vuitton. Fashion enthusiasts say that this Seoul show is like his collection. He specifically extracted different iconic elements from multiple seasons’ archives and reassembled them to present them in a more everyday wearable way. The weighty silhouettes, which are Nicolas Ghesquière’s specialty, can be seen in the sharp shoulder lines of the suits, exaggerated drop shoulders, and the layering of fabric wrinkles, all of which showcase Nicolas Ghesquière’s signature design.
Reinterpreting classic designs has always been Nicolas Ghesquière’s strength. In this early autumn collection, he gives a fresh new look to the Atlantis letter combination soft tote bag that was launched in the 2016 autumn/winter collection. The popular Archlight 2.0’s sole has also undergone a small revision. What’s even more surprising are the cute and unique Mary Jane shoes, tennis shoes, boots, and Roman sandals, all of which are essential for travel.
