Paris Fashion Week: Saint Laurent 2023 Winter Gender Fluidity, Effortlessly Elegant Feminine Charm

Saint Laurent 2023 Winter Women’s Collection, creative director Anthony Vaccarello did not choose to outline a specific Saint Laurent female image, but instead captured the essence of the brand’s classic style, combined it with his own design philosophy, and reinterpreted the well-known Tailleur-Jupe aesthetic to reflect the present.

From the layout of this fashion show, you can already feel the brand’s classic essence, inspired by the banquet hall of the Intercontinental Hotel, which was the venue for the brand’s Haute Couture collection from 1975 to 2001. Crystal chandeliers and uniquely shaped runways, these iconic elements from that glorious era are once again present before our eyes.

The series blurs the boundaries between genders, conveying a subtle emotion. The strong suit jacket and slim pencil skirt create a triangular silhouette, becoming the main outline of this season. Through delicate details, luxurious fabrics, and streamlined tailoring techniques, unnecessary decorations are removed, integrating the classic Saint Laurent style into a modern aesthetic.

A crisp tailored suit jacket paired with a flowing blouse, adorned with a bow tie or a classic neck scarf draped in front, can also be worn as a shawl to showcase a natural drape. Sheer chiffon, pleated chiffon, plain weave fabric, and translucent stockings add a seductive charm to the look, allowing one to freely express their individuality and posture.
Classic pieces such as suit jackets, baseball leather jackets, and sharply tailored vests seamlessly integrate into women’s wardrobes. Traditional patterns commonly used in menswear designs, including pinstripes, Scottish plaids, and Prince of Wales checks, are presented with a light and graceful touch to showcase the feminine beauty. The entire collection walks the line between masculinity and femininity, both bold and soft, depicting the effortlessly elegant Saint Laurent woman in Anthony Vaccarello’s eyes.
