Loewe’s creative director, Jonathan Anderson, always brings imaginative designs, playing with clothing proportions and silhouettes in a humorous and playful way. The 2023 Spring/Summer collection, with a red palm as the invitation, already hints at what’s to come. This season, Jonathan Anderson cleverly draws inspiration from the unique form of the red palm, skillfully playing with the wonders of nature.
Stepping into the Loewe show, a giant red palm installation serves as the highlight, with models emerging from the stem. The intricate construction of the red palm evokes connotations of desire, and this season is an experiment in clarifying ideas, deconstructing and reassembling, and forward-thinking, presenting the wonders of nature through the lines, colors, forms, and precise tailoring of the clothing.
In addition to red palms, there are also white palms and green palms, which are the biggest focus of the season throughout the entire collection, large and small embellishments on clothing and footwear. The cutting silhouette is also a major focus of the season, with clothing shapes being reduced, tightened, and redesigned, such as a series of simple and neat velvet petticoats, originally only the front is a three-dimensional petticoat; jumpsuits are shortened like they’ve shrunk, leather jackets and hunting jackets are also shrunk like they’ve been watered down; there are also metal enamel plating, vests printed with floral patterns, and deformed knitted styles. This season also uses eight-bit digital pixel patterns as prints, or paired with draped drapes like solidified sculptures, presenting a playful visual effect.
Accessories are equally surprising, continuing the balloon elements from last season, but now deflated and wrapped around high heels, as well as “balloon” rubber high heels, transparent flat shoes, etc.; Puffer Goya handbags have been updated with new fabrics, continuing the inflated shaping route; the newly launched Paseo handbag has a long and streamlined beauty, with a braided pure silver bracelet exquisitely crafted.
