The 2023 Spring/Summer Paris Fashion Week kicked off with a Dior fashion show, featuring not only the new collection but also brand ambassadors BLACKPINK Jisoo and “face genius” Cha Eun-woo in attendance, adding excitement and buzz to the fashion event.
Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri continues to promote feminism in the new season, from a silk scarf with a map of Paris Montaigne Avenue from the past archives, to the representation of women and power embodied by Catherine de Medici. Queen Catherine de Medici of France brought many innovative ideas at the time, introducing high heels, tight corsets, and Burano lace to the royal court and receiving much acclaim.
The fashion show is located in the Tuileries Garden, with a Baroque-style cave created by French artist Eva Jospin as the backdrop. Maria Grazia Chiuri opened a dialogue between the past and present through the collection, reshaping courtly attire, reinterpreting the tight corset in a new geometric form, and adding a unique silhouette with subtly visible waist belts, reminiscent of Catherine de Medici’s wide hemmed skirts.
The clothing incorporates a large amount of lace elements, while also injecting a sense of sportiness and comfort. The dress styles use embroidered cotton fabric, Madeira embroidery patchwork, or map prints, with shorts separated from the middle; the tight corset breaks free from its traditional constraints, becoming an accessory paired with loose shirts, appearing relaxed and comfortable. The long-standing Rafi grass coat is embellished with floral and bird-themed patterns, embodying Dior’s style of innovating tradition with creativity and contemporary technology.
