Milan Fashion Week: Gucci 2023 Spring/Summer Collection, 68 pairs of twins walk the runway echoing the “Twinsburg” theme.

The Gucci 2023 Spring/Summer collection, themed “Twinsburg,” once again shocks everyone with Creative Director Alessandro Michele leading the way. The fashion show started off as a typical grand show, but halfway through, a partition in the middle slowly rose up, revealing another group of models with identical looks and styles on the other side, presenting a mirror image scene, taking everyone into the world of twins.

“I have two mothers: Eralda mom and Giuliana mom.” As the son of twins, Alessandro Michele, in his childhood, felt the grace of “two mothers,” which fascinated him with the idea of duality, reflecting on the differences between appearance and concept. “This curse of chromosomes, intending to create two completely identical individuals; but the reality is, their lives are filled with various intangible differences and misalignments.” And this collection is a tribute to these two mothers.

This season, Alessandro Michele brought in 68 pairs of twins to walk the show, featuring sleekly tailored suits, sportswear-inspired looks, Chinese-style qipaos, Japanese-style jackets, glamorous evening gowns, as well as embroidery, sequins, metallic tones, ruffles, floral patterns, animal prints, tassel accessories, etc., showcasing both extravagance and Gucci’s embrace of multicultural spirit. The FUORI orange sequined jacket in the collection pays homage to the Fronte Unitario Omosessuale Rivoluzionario Italiano magazine from the early 1970s.

Another highlight of the series, the protagonist of the 1980s movie “Gremlins” appears in different styles in the series, hidden in handbags, transformed into three-dimensional decorations on belts and shoes, and becoming prints on skirts, adding a delightful surprise and childlike fun to the series. The little gremlins in the movie multiply and reproduce furballs when they encounter water, constantly replicating and multiplying, but they are more stubborn and evil fluffy monsters, which also echoes the theme of this season’s Gucci: looking exactly the same, but emitting different qualities.

In addition, the newly launched handbag, inspired by a Gucci handbag from the early 1980s with an equestrian theme, features a curved saddle-shaped flap and a long shoulder strap. Alessandro Michele has reshaped it into a square style and brought a reinterpretation.
